    N4100+ - post your speeds!

    Hi,

    I purchased a N4100+ (firmware 2.0.03), and loaded it with 4 x 500 Gb drives (ST3500630AS / 3.AA firmware) in a Raid 5 array. What a.. dissapointment.

After transferring a 700 Mb file on a gigabit etheret Cat6 i get:

    5 Megabit per second write.
    6 Megabit per second read.

Slow hey... I have tried both XP / Vista ... all very slow.

I would be interested to know what others have achieved?

    Cheers,

    Sam.

Did you tried the gigabit ethernet ?
Performance will be better using this interface.

    Hi,

Yep as I mentioned that was tested on Gigabit ethernet.

I have just accessed my 4100+ via FTP, and transferred a file to my laptop (connected at 130 Mbps wireless) and achieved 6.5 MBps .. so that is good enough for me and keeping me happy. I will plug it in once again with Gigabit ethernet but test across FTP this time and see how I go.

I am putting the slow transfer problem down to Vista, I am running Vista 32 Bit Business edition (legit and fully updated...) - I don't quite trust Vista just yet. For some reason it seems slow across local networks. I think the evidence is right there, the 6.5 MBps read I get via a wireless connection via FTP, or the 2 MBps read I get via the same wireless connection when transferring purely through Windows.

    Cheers,

    Sam.

    Smile N4100+ newbie! First post!.......

I have 4 WD2500KS drives to put into my N4100+ but i need to wait for a Hitachi 7K500 to arrive to copy all the data to so i can build my array before i can give you a response with my transfer rates Sammy (disappointed to find you cant just chuck drives in as JBOD that already have data on them, wishful thinking i suppose).

Anyway, i use Remote Task Manager (protect-me DOT com/rtm) to monitor transfer rates (it is like task manager but has a DECENT REAL WORLD transfer rate display as opposed to windows taskman's networking tab whcih is completely useless. I was hoping the Task Manager in Vista might be more helpful, once again wishful thinking......

Check you TX rates with RTM (30 day trial available) and i will post mine as well and we/other forum members can compare like for like results.

hi all i bought a n4100+ and filled it with 4 samsung 500gb drives

i can get upto 8mb/sec write (5mb/sec average)
    and upto 18mb/sec (12mb/sec average)

i was hoping for faster but it is quite good performance for a mere xscale 600mhz cpu.

    This is ridiculous!

After having a N5200 for office we got a "smaller" N4100+ as we didn't have requirements from RAID6 on that one.

    around

    3-4 Megabit per second read/write

    as the initial post said.

MBIT!!!! (our broadband is THREE TIMES faster at 12 mbit! (not byte!!!)

We got the latest Seagate SATA2 disks of 750GB in there,
and luckily I got the N5200 comparison.

We can do 60-70 mbit/sec to the N5200, with similar disks,
which is absolute proof that the N4100+ is defect by design.

What's worse is that the shrink wrapped box contained a CD
that was empty, so we had to wait 4 full days to setup the box finally...

As it seems today, this N4100+ model is the biggest waste of money
I've seen so far in my life and I really hope Thecus will be delivering a
Bios Flash in the next 48 hours, else I'll send this back to the distributor to get our money back

frustrated about this lack of quality here... this smells "scam"

if you are getting such low speeds then you must have a defective unit. even 70-80mbit is slow.
if you want it in mbit i get ~48mbit write and 128mbit read on my N4100+

and you do know even if your CD was empty you could have downloaded the software from thecus.com
also..you dont need to CD to set it up anyway..just browse to 192.168.1.100 and set it up.

also since you said it was for an office, if many ppl will be connecting to it at a time, open up the box and swap the 256mb DDR for a 512MB, makes a big difference if many ppl need to connect to it at a time.

So where would you download 4100+ software? they dont have it up still

    www DOT thecus DOT com/downloadx.php?cid=1&pid=28

The CD we got sent does NOT include that imagine software that was promoted on their website for weeks (but that marketing text was taken down now)

Re: N4100+ - post your speeds!

the IO performance is not like PC based system, that’s why the

network throughput performance is not like PC and N5200. (Oh My God!!)

Generally, the transfer rate is around 24Mbps ~ 80Mbps [haha – a 1/10th of this],
