    N5200 PRO and Mac OSX

    Hi,

can you please explain what the limitations are for copying files to a share on a N5200 PRO using AFP and Mac OS X 10.4x:

    • Is it true that filenames longer than 32 characters cannot be used?
    • Is it true that special characters like @*/\:,~ cannot be used?
    • Is it true that resource forks and other hidden files beginning with '.' cannot be copied, and that you therefore cannot drag and drop folders to the share from a Mac?

    Many thanks!

I've been able to create a filename (for a directory in this case) called 1234567890123456789012345678901a1234567890@*/\;,~
    That's over 32 characters.

    I couldn't use ":" on the Mac so I went with ";".

It is possible to drag and drop both ways (i.e. from Thecus to Mac and back again) for Applications/directories.

I saw the restrictions you noted and was a little worried, however I can say that using AFP works fine for me. I'm on firmware 1.00.12.3 (Beta) but this functionality has worked fine for a while.

That's good news, thank you for checking! The colon : is a reserved character in OS X. The other symbols are sometimes used by application bundles and fonts, so in theory it should be possible to fully back up all the files on a Mac to a Thecus N5200 using something like SuperDuper.
