How long time will it take to build raid volume?

    Hi,

Yvon mentioned in another post something about a rate of 10MB/sec, is that the normal build rate of a new raid volume?

I would assume it depends on a lot of different factors like what specific Thecus product (CPU), disk speeds (rpm), RAID type etc., or?

I'm specifically interested to know how long it would take to build a RAID5 volume using five Seagate ES 750GB disks on a N5200Pro box, does anyone have any hints?

    /Stan

Sorry, didn't time my RAID build, but I would let it sit overnight building the array. Took me about a full afternoon till it finished building when I left it uninterrupted.

    Dear Stan,

Last time we build a RAID5 with 500GB*5 take 410 mins on N5200 pro, and RAID6 with 500GB*5 take 650 mins, thus we could scale the voulme to RAID5 with 500GB*5 would take 410*1.5=615 mins....

Also the build lapse bepend on the NAS & HDD performance too.

    Yvon.
