    Hi Steve,
at the WAN page there is no DNS configured. At the first stage I would enable DHCP on the WAN side and let the DL-514 assign an IP Adress, the GW and the DNS to the N5200. If You want to use a fixed IP adress in Your home network, the You have to configure IP, Gateway (this can be the router) and DNS on the WAN page.
On the LAN page You should enable DHCP and put in the DNS your ISP Provider have given to You - or which is assigned to the DL-514.
May be a recommendation for the whole setup:
Use one Access router and one subnetwork in Your home network, i.e.: let the access router (in Your case now the DL-514) be the DHCP server and use only switches If You need more ports for connections - dividing the homenetwork in different subnetworks makes it more complicated as it have to be.

    Peter

    thanks for that peter
    i will definitely try that.
The reason I would like to utilise the Router built in to the N5200 is because its Gigabit, whereas the D-link is only 10/100. I've got lots of files to move about on the network, so would have ideally liked the higher data rate. No matter, I'll just have to purchase a good gigabit router
    Suggestions please

A cheaper possibility is to keep the router as Internet access and connect a Gigibit Switch to the router and then all your other components to the switch ports - there are switches available from 4 up to 48 ports, and if you look to ebay you will find 4 to 8 port switches starting with 20 Euro - and for the internet access the router is fine enough (at least this is the configuration I have - a small access router with build in firewall to the internet and a 24 port gigabit switch for the inhouse network - and two 8 port gigabit switches on places where I need more connections)

will I be able to configure this up such that I can FTP in from outside?

Following the DL-514 manual, Yes - via the option Advanced -> Virtual Server.
The router function You need is called "port forwarding"

    gotcha
Configure the N5200 to have a static IP, then forward the FTP port to it using the router
    Cheers!
