N5200B Pro, Upgrade Samba Version?
Hi,
I am running an N5200Pro with FW version 2.00.02.2. I use the box as a NAS for our research laboratory at a large university, and received an e-mail from our IT folk about a security vulnerability in my version of Samba. The version of Samba I am using is 3.0.22, and needs to be upgraded to the latest version 3.0.25b. Is there any way of doing this? I already fooled around a little logging into my N5200 using SSH, but the version of Linux lacks all of the necessary tools to compile a new version of Samba.
Just FYI, this is the security vulnerability they are worried about (I would link, but can't since I am a new member):
CVE-2007-2446: Multiple Heap Overflows Allow Remote Code Execution
Thanks for any help you can give me!
Re: N5200B Pro, Upgrade Samba Version?
I guess only building a new firmware would help ...
download it (www.thecus.com/Download) and do it. Also check www.onbeat.dk for instructions.
But best would be: wait for the next release of the firmware. You are using a beta (the fourth number of the version makes it beta).
Re: N5200B Pro, Upgrade Samba Version?
I figured that was my only option. Thanks for the reply, but I think I'll wait it out with Thecus and try my best to convince them to work on updating their firmware (from what I hear that'll probably be impossible).
