    G'day Yvon,

I have been back and trasferring my data. Still having issues though. I have successfully relocated my data and done the firmware update on NAS1. Formatted the drives and configured it again.

    1. NAS2 (Firmware 1.00.10) to NAS1 (Firmware 2.00.01) transfer of data fails.
-I think this is still an issues because NAS2 has not been updated to 2.00.01 yet. So hoping this will be fixed once I have relocated my data and done the firmware update.

    2. NAS1 (Firmware 2.00.01) still has issues when transferring large files. It drops the connection after transferring a few hundred MB, then reconnects where it left off. Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought this issue was fixed?!?!?!

    3. This maybe a configuration issue on my behalf, but I can not browse through windows explorer anymore. I am going to have a good play around with the settings and get back to you on this one.

    Thats it for now.

Thank you as always, your time and assistance is appreciated.

    Kind Regards

    Re: Thecus n5200 - Files / Folders / Transfer / AD Issues

    G'day Yvon,

I have another problem to report which I did not do so originally. When streaming videos from the N5200 it stutters or jerks trying to play. Now this never really was a problem when I first bought the N5200. Back then I was running firmware 1.00.05. I upgraded to 1.00.08 to find this issue starting to arise. It was not consistent though after the upgrade. I did the upgrade to 1.00.10 before it was annouced a beta shortly after release... well according to "Thecus Wiki". It happened all the time after this upgrade. I lived with it hoping it would get fixed soon. With you pointing me to firmware 2.00.01 I was sure you guys would have fixed it.... well, sadly I have found that it did not. Do you have any recommendations to try in solving this?

    Kind Regards

    Hi all, especially Yvon

is it a general recommendation to rebuild the RAID under FW 2.00.01 in order to make use of the changed file structure and added stability?

I had build a RAID 5 with 3 500 GB Samsung disks under firmware 1.00.07 when I purchased my non-Pro N5200B. Later on I successfully upgraded the FW to 1.00.08, then 1.00.10, then 2.00.01.
So it is currently running on 2.00.01
I am currently planning to expand/migrate the RAID 5 from 3*500 GB to 4*500 GB disks, i.e. I want to add 1 additional drive.

Should I rebuild the RAID under the current 2.00.01 FW first or should I just add the drive and to a RAID 5 to 5 migration?

    Thanks for your advice!

    BR

    Re: Thecus n5200 - Files / Folders / Transfer / AD Issues

    Dear Phaedrus,

Since the first power up with updated to V2.00.01, system would change the file system structure automatically, thus if we are V2.00.01 which means it is new structure already.
In your case from 3*500GB to 4*500GB, we could doing the RADI Migration from 3*500GB to 4*500GB, the process is RADI Migration-> new RAID volume building and take much time.
But if we have additional HDD to backup all data out, we just need create a new RAID5 volume, since RAID building complete, and copy data back to N5200.
It is depend on user's environment.

    Yvon.

Yes you are. No you don't run fsck (it's a hardware-problem, has nothing to do with the filesystem). You might get used to checking the states of your disks more often. You probably have reallocated and or pending sectors on those 2 disks. Please check out (by clicking on the warning) if it's only reallocated sectors or pending.

Reallocated sectors mean: the respective disk drive found out it had troubles reading a specific sector, but it could resolve that issue without data loss.

Pending sectors mean: troubles were found, but not (yet) resolved.

If you're lucky, only one of the disks has pending sectors. Then you would replace this disk and rebuild the raid. After successful rebuild you'd replace the other disk. Send the disks for RMA to Seagate, they'll replace them for you.

If you are out of luck and both disks have pending sectors, you should slap your face because of being so naive thinking disk drives last forever, then shut down the thecus right now. Go get some spares and make a byte-wise copy from your disks onto the spares. Then insert the spares and after that you might run a fsck.

And the last point on your TODO-List is: get a backup, because A RAID IS NOT A BACKUP!!!
    Hardware mods:
    # they void your warranty
    # they may seem to work, but kill your machine later on
    # they are mostly unneeded, because the engineers who built a machine knew what they were doing...
