    Configuration/Routing

    On a N5200BR firmware version 1.00.10

This system has 4 local PCs connected to the N5200

The raid 6 is working nicely, and all PCs talk to the N5200 and the internet.
All of the PC's are XP home and the N5200 is set as a DHCP server for addresses 192.168.2.here is no WINS or DHCP server on the net other than the one that is provided by the N5200

The question is how to configure this so that all users can access the N5200, and the internet via the PC that is the gateway and also talk to each other on the local LAN

I think everything is working , ie nothing is "broken" or defective, it just needs to be configured in a way that is not obvious from reading the manual.

One of the PCs (PC1) uses sprint wireless broadband EVDO that can act either as a
NDIS connection or a dialup connection (the interface is via USB).

PC1 on the WAN port 192.168.0.* can not talk to the other hosts on the local lan.
PC2,3,4 can all talk to each other.
All can talk to the N5200, and all can talk to the internet.

    WAN 192.168.0.100
    LAN 192.168.2.254

PC1 -->>WAN (this is also the PC with the internet connection)
    it is static IP 192.168.0.1

    PC2 --> \
    PC3 --> > LAN dhcp provided addresses 192.168.2.1 - 192.168.2.100
    PC4 --> /

    Thanks if you can help

    Dear Sir,

According to the NAT structure the WAN port PC1 can't access to the LAN port PCs, but the PC2/3/4 from LAN port via IP sharing mode could access to internet & PC1's physical IP address, as like we using the route access to the Internet.

    Solution 1: Less configuration
If we went PC1 act as a Internet acess function and access PC2/3/4 to each other, we could try to add a network card on PC1 and link to N5200 DHCP LAN, and communicate PC2/3/4 whit this network card.

    PC1________USB______________Internet
    |
    |__________LAN CARD 1 Internet_________ N5200 WAN port
    | |
    |__________LAN CARD 2 talk to PC2/3/4____ N5200 LAN port
    | |
    | |
    PC2/3/4____LAN CARD 1

    Solution 2: More complex
Set to WAN LAN exchange mode, manual assign same segment IP to N5200 WAN port & PC1/2/3/4 or PC1 act as a DHCP serve, and config the PC1 with Internet connection sharing.

    PC1________USB________________________Internet
    |
    |________LAN CARD 1 _________ PC2/3/4/N5200

    Thank you Yvon
    You Solution 2 worked well.
We set the LAN addresses to 192.168.0.xxx and enabled DHCP
Now all 4 PC's can communicate with each other, the N5200 and the internet.
External scans show that the N5200 is not visible from the internet (this is good)

The N5200 is functioning well for us.

    Thanks Again
    Thanks again.

    Re: Configuration/Routing

    Hi,

I'm not quite clear on how to do this, I'd love a little help.

I have a PS3 which I want to connect to the Thecus 5200BR directly, plus I want it to have Internet access.

I have plugged the PS3 directly into one of the 4 ports
I have also plugged my home network into another one of the 4 ports

This works fine, however, I'm wasting a port. I believe I should be plugging the home network into the single port, and any appliances like the PS3 into the 4-port internal switch. I have had success doing this however, I cannot get the NAT working so the PS3 has internet.

If it is possible, could someone please tell me what settings I should use. Here are my current settings:

I have enabled WAN LAN Exchange

I have configured the following WAN configuration:
    Host Name: N5200
    Domain Name: localhost
    DHCP: Disable
    IP: 192.168.0.43
    Netmask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.0.1
    DNS Server: 192.168.0.1
    IP Sharing Mode: Disable

I have configured the following LAN configuration:
    IP: 192.168.2.1
    Netmask: 255.255.255.0
    DHCP Server: Disable

My PS3 is configured to use:
    IP: 192.168.0.22
    Netmask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.0.1
    DNS: 192.168.0.1

My gateway for the internet and DNS is: 192.168.0.1

I do not use DHCP for anything on my network at this time.

Any help appreciated, or if it's not actually possible to use all 5 ports in this manner please let me know.

    Thanks in advance,
    - Will
