Re: 5200Pro + Slimserver?
Peterfu, thanks that was the problem I did not realise that I had to set up Raid as I only have 1 x 1 TB Hitachi Deskstar ATM (awaiting delivery of second) but doing that (JBOD actually) did the trick and allowed me to load the perl and slimserver modules.
Now I need to know which folder do I store my music and do I still need to set up the N5200 as a media server if I am not using the inbuilt server software??
cheers,
David
Re: 5200Pro + Slimserver?
Hi David,
Assuming You are only doing tests at the moment and not storing all Your data on the N5200, cause there is no migration path from JBOD to a protected RAID configuration.
I'm not using slimserver, but in the thecus user group are a lot of threads how to use it:
- I think access to web config pages is via <your internal ip>:9009
- folders can be specified during configuration
- folders must be public (think this has not changed, but I'm not 100% sure)
- don't activate the build in media server (mediabolic) if You have no needs to serve other clients, however there should be no problem using both, except some performance issues

Re: 5200Pro + Slimserver?
Hi and thanks again peterfu, after a long day reading the threads on slimserver I have finally managed to get it working properly. You are also correct that I am not storing all my data on N5200... yet but I have received my second drive and configured for raid 0. If/when I get another drive and want to re-configure for raid5 will I lose all my music which is now stored on the N5200??
Another question is regarding the e-mail notification... how do I get it to work???
cheers,
David.
Re: 5200Pro + Slimserver?
Hi David,
according to the raid migration table in the N5200 FAQ migration 2 disk RAID0 to 3 disk RAID5 should work - however RAID0 has no protection against disk failures - so if one disk of the RAID0 has a failure all data are lost.
E-Mail notification: not all login and authentification types are supported in the N5200 setup. So it depends on Your ISP - or better on the provider of Your mailserver - if You can setup the mail notification in a correct way. To answere Your question the requirements of Your mailserver provider are needed.

Re: 5200Pro + Slimserver?
OK thanks, I'm still experimenting and I think being able to get the sheduled power off/on to work is my next feature to tinker with as I think this would be quite useful
cheers,
David.
Re: 5200Pro + Slimserver?
I have configured my slimserver so that the folders can be secure even while streaming
Its on the slimdevices forums and I am unable to find it.
However I might still have some documents at home regarding this
I get back to you on this one in a few
Thanks
Re: 5200Pro + Slimserver?
Slimserver on Thecus N5200 - Slim Devices : Community : Forums
Explains how you can make a folder secure and still stream music to the SB
Havent had that working for the Media Player to stream movies though :(
Re: 5200Pro + Slimserver?
Hello all,
How do I get into the IPERF mod? I have it installed, but can't look at the data there...
Thanks,
Paul
Re: 5200Pro + Slimserver?
I did finally manage to get my approx 25000 file music collection on to my 5200Pro by following bloodyguitars' advice on the thread above, however after getting them on the N5200 trying to access the files over a network to edit them was too slow a process and so I did the editing to the original files which I still have stored on a portable external harddrive before porting them again to the thecus at a later stage. As I had also changed the folder structure it wasn't practical or possible to just overwrite the existing files on the 5200 so my problem is, not being a linux/perl chappie, deleting all the existing files already stored on the N5200 in the slimserver folder, is there an easy way of deleting files without having to open up every sub directory to its lowest form, which perl seems to make you do in order to delete files, as this is extremely time consuming and laborious... does anyone know or have a workaround for this problem... thanks in advance and please excuse me if I have posted in the wrong thread :)
cheers,
David.
