>2TB ISCSI problem, unknown / Unreadable disk
I’ve an N5200B Pro with 5x1TB Seagate ES.2 HDD in RAID 5.
I’ve 1% for data and 99% for ISCSI total 3680.4GB.
I connect my ISCSI drive but I can’t format the drive because it’s unknown / Unreadable so I can’t format it in GPT. Only if I use 55% (2044.7 GB) I get the menu Initialize Disk, and 60% it’s unknown / Unreadable.
I think if it’s bigger then 2048MB it’s unknown / Unreadable and if it’s smaller then 2048MB it’s good and I can format the disk.
I hope Thecus can fix this problem with a firmware update as soon as possible.
I hope Thecus - Yvon / Thecus Staff can say something about this problem.
OS = Vista 32bit
Firmware 2.0.0.0.1
See link with same problem

99% ISCSI total 3680.4GB. unknown / Unreadable

55% (2044.7 GB) Initialize Disk, no problem
I can't post links (need 5 post before i can) so there is some space between http: and //
Re: >2TB ISCSI problem, unknown / Unreadable disk
I think from reading else where this is a windows limit.
Thats if you are using windows to connect.

I only know that NTFS max file size 2TB and max volume size 256TB.

Dear Sir,
Following thread about 2TB limit for your reference:

Re: >2TB ISCSI problem, unknown / Unreadable disk
I see someone with XP 32bit with 10TB iSCSI ...."Windows XP (32Bit) can connect to the Target and can use all the 10TB!"
Support the N5200B Pro >2TB?
The link doesn't help me further.
I don't know what to do?
Re: >2TB ISCSI problem, unknown / Unreadable disk
I've posted the same issue here:
hteeteepee://forums.hexus.net/thecus-care-hexus/121884-n5200-pro-iscsi-n-tb.html
and got even less help than you.
I'm fairly sure it's not windows as a quick research yields no info about such file system limits.
I am finding that many 'feaures' of this unit promises so much then fails to deliver as expected.
And the support is very poor when contacting them directly......
Re: >2TB ISCSI problem, unknown / Unreadable disk
Delorian I have the solution for you.
I have tested it with Vista 32-bit Vista 64bit and XP Tablet.
Only XP tablet doesn’t work, vista works great.
Download StarPort iSCSI and AoE (ATA-over-Ethernet) Initiator for Microsoft Windows.
It’s free and it works.
I have tested it with 3 x 1TB RAID0 (2 disks rma )
I have now 2,6TB in vista.
Good luck

Wow thanks I'll look into that.
Funny how Thecus didn't provide the solution though.... :(
Re: >2TB ISCSI problem, unknown / Unreadable disk
Now 1 yr later and same problem with 5200proB firmware v2.00.12.
Used starport but it broke iSCSI drive into 2 parts of 2TB & 1.3TB. Using 5 1 TB drives with 90% allocated to iSCSI. Now formatting but hope to join them as a dynamic drive afterwards.

I use firmware 2.00.04 5 x 1TB RAID5
99% iSCSI and 1% not used
Target 1: 55% 2044.7 GB = 1,99TB in Vista (standard primary partition) not dynamic
Target 2: 44% 1635.7 GB = 1,59TB in Vista (standard primary partition) not dynamic
And I use standard vista iSCSI initiator without problems since the release of firmware 2.00.04 (Dec 10, 2007
Re: >2TB ISCSI problem, unknown / Unreadable disk
I resolved the problem with a 3rd party iSCSI initiator but for the record, Microsoft’s version need to be redesigned if it is to work with greater than 2 TB iSCSI drives!!!!
The MSFT iSCSI initiator is pretty much useless for these big drives (greater than 2 TB) whereas the Starport iSCSI initiator combined with GPT initialization gets the job done.
I learned that with the MBR style initialization, I was limited to a 2 TB partition.
From Vista drive management (after using Starport) changed the initialization style to GPT & Eureka, got my single 3.5 TB partition. Formatting also successful.
