    Service Folders

    Hello Thecus team.

I 'm trying to set up Thecus N299.
RAID (doesn't meter if JBOD, RAID 0 or RAID 1) automatically split HDD to "album", "video", "iTunes", "usbcopy", "usbhdd", "IPCam" & "nsync" partitions (visible also in main menu of the N299: STORAGE -> Service Folders). I'd like to ask you if it is possible to remove all these partial partitions created by RAID and have one partition. We would like to use N299 on our LAN as NFS for our office database, and this divided HDD did not allow us to use whole capacity of the drive..

    Regards...
    Paul

    FYI: Firmware v1.00.32

    Re: Service Folders

    Dear Sir,

N299 is home enertainment product, thus system would preset these folder for user to using the funcaiotn as like WEB ALBUM, iTunes server and etc. For office data base we would recommend chosse N4100+ or N5200.
N299 is an embedded Linux system, as like all other NAS products on the market both need some space for operartion or swap, it is familiar with Linux too.

    Dear Yvon..

This product recommend me guy from PC store (I was explain him what I want to do, and he recommend me your product N299).
    Few things:
    1.) N4100+ or N5200 is near to 4x more expensive then N299.
2.) We as small company don't need so huge NAS server as N4100+ & N5200 are. Our database have about 1-5 GB, so we will not utilize storage with 5 HDD's with capacity > 3TB.....
3.) There is no difference between data which creating entertainment and database.
4.) I don't want to use full capacity of the HDD, but I wan't to be able to remove (manage) those partitions and create only one partition (exept partitions for OS & SWAP). Linux OS allow root /users to do this..

    Regards...

    Paul

    Hi Paul,
I don't think you will be successful with your query. Thecus has yet not been willing to address user issues about missing features even when explicitly advertised (except to pointing to there more expensive devices). Unfortunately they have not even answered to repeated queries for opening any kind of access to the OS (e. g. telnet).
Of course the N299 is a cheap device so you shouldn't have expected to much ...

    Regards
    Peter

    Hi Peter.
Yes, I can imagine the reason why this happen.....
And because I didn't received satisfactory answer, I buy rival product (airlink101 anas350) which will allow me to do what I want to do......and dear Thecus will be returned to the shop.... version of the company
