N4100+ Print server module stops disks spinning down.

    Hello,

Whenever the printer server module is installed and enabled the disks do not spin down, and a few times per hour I see the disk activity lights flash (nothing else is on the network at the time so nothing is reading or writing or even connected to the N4100+).

I assume this activity is stopping the disks spinning down. I've tested with it being the only device on the network switched on (All PCs and the printer are off). It does seem to be the printer module either reading or writing to disk when there are no jobs in the queue or pc's switched on.

I'm using the Printer Server module from the CD that came with the N4100+

Is there a fix for this?

    Thanks,

    - Anthony

Owing to the prompt response, I have done some work on this problem myself, and fixed the issue altogether.

To fix this issue install the PrinterServer module from the N4100+ cd (don't enable it yet) and

    edit /raid/module/PrinterServer/etc/cups/cupsd.conf

    Add the line:
    RootCertDuration 0

This will prevent cups from creating a new certificate in /raid/module/PrintServer/etc/cups/certs/0 every 5 minutes (which prevents hard disks from spinning down).

    Finally enable the module.

Also, why can't I find the latest modules on the thecus site? I'm sure they're GPL licensed and as such should be freely available (including source code).

You havce gotta be joking me....
Just had a new New firmware / Module Release:-

    [Known Problems]
    3. HDDs cannot get into stand by (spin down) mode if USB printer server module installed.

You know I gave you the fix for this don't you?

    edit /raid/module/PrinterServer/etc/cups/cupsd.conf

    Add the line:
    RootCertDuration 0

This will make the drives spin down as expected. Easy, is this not done in the new module?

I have tested this, and it works as expected.

I can confirm that this line is not in the new module, and that adding it fixes it.

good job, it's shocking that they haven't bothered to answer or at least acknoledge that your fix is working...

I'm not impressed by the support around the 4100+... At all...

I've emailed them and they said they've passed it on to their R&D team for testing.

Wonder if / when they'll add it to their module.
