Question N5200 Pro - Most curious 40 sec Webdisk Problem

    Evening,

for a little over two weeks I'm working with two brand-new N5200 Pro, FW 2.01. The two systems store different things but everything else is identical - config, raid setup, used harddrives, etc. I'm quite happy with their performance (35MB write/sec. @ RAID5), the available features and the tweaking one can do.

Still one of the two is behaving very odd (and has been from the very beginning): When I try to access the files via the webdisk interface it takes a little over a minute to login and EXACTLY (yes I stopped it several times) 40 seconds to change between folders. The other machine is working like a charm - local acces is instant, over the internet a 1-2 sec delay.

The admin interface works fast & fine at all times. The system info page claims that the CPU load is at 2% and there is no activity on the network during this wait.

    A few things I tried:
access via LAN, Internet and direct-connect
tried different PCs and both Firefox and IE
    disabled all module
    reset to factory default

Answers to questions you might have:
    HDD 5 x 500 GB Samsung T166
users - for testing purpose only 1 atm
    # of folders - 6
    # of sub-folders per folder - between 0 and 100
    # of files / folder - arund 30
    Static IP 192.168.0.254
    Subnet 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 192.168.0.1
Connected via WAN Port, LAN Port unused and disconnected
again all modules are disabled and setting are @ factory default (except the ip obviously)

Some advice would be much appreciated!

    Kind regards, Thomas

Hey Thomas, are you connecting to active directory at all? If so have a few ideas.

If not, do you have any way to take a network trace of what is going on the wire during delay using Network Monitor, SNORT, or another tool?

Re: N5200 Pro - Most curious 40 sec Webdisk Problem

    Hey Mickey,
no AD or similar stuff. I also have the problem if I directly connect an out-of-the-box Windows XP laptop and the NAS.

I didn't check the traffic yet but judging by the leds the Thecus doesn't generate any traffic at all during those 40 seconds.

Guess I will give my local Thecuas supplier a call and see if they have any ideas and maybe give the new 2.00.4 FW a try. If nothing else helps I can still have it replaced since I don't have this problem on the second unit. Only need to find out how to transfer my RAID without too much hazzle.

Cheers and thanks for the suggestions, Thomas
