    N299 raid degradation

    I use a N299 with the latest firmware (V1.00.24) and 2 Seagate ST3500630AS 500Gb HDs, firmware 3.AAK

    Steps taken where:
    - configuring with config wizard
    - reboot
    - configuring with internet browser:
    - create RAID 1
    - upload firmware
    - activate firmware
    - reboot
    - remove RAID
    - create RAID 1
    - waiting 4 hours to sync both disks

After first reboot the second HD went to FAIL (red LED), the Raid to degraded.
But after reboot again the second disk was shown as OK, the RAID as degraded and I again had to create the 4 hour Raid 1.
After that process (over the night) I checked the Raid this morning - and again: the second disk was shown as OK, the RAID as degraded, only Disk 1 online.

    **ADDED:
After another try to sync a raid 1 set the same problem occured - raid degraded.

From 0 to about 89,5 % the speed was "normal" in the sense that it looked to last about 4 hours in total. But from 89,5 % on to about 90,5 it took very much longer, the remaining time jumped to thousands of minutes. And I had the feeling that the CPU was kind of looping because the web interface was extremely slow. And the CPU usage of the System tab was constantly at 0,0% (?).
At the percentage of about 90,5 the raid again has been degraded leaving the product useless for me..
    ********

And: configuring the device with the config wizard and entering the new admin password has no effects - after reboot the old password is configured using the web browser:
And: the system log clears after removing and recreating the Raid. Maybe this is normal.

    Please help asap.
    Thank you,
    Arthur.

    Re: N299 raid degradation

    Dear Sir,

    Thanks for your mail.

If N299 abnormal or degrade, following steps for your reference:

    1. Open top cover to verify any HDD noise or temperature cause system abnormal.

    2. Take HDD into PC and running manufacture’s diagnose tool verify HDD status: Seagate Technology - DiscWizard or Seagate Technology - SeaTools

    3. Re-create a new RAID volume and than reinstall the firmware again.

    4. Try from other HDD to clarify the HDD compatibility issue.

    5. If above steps doesn’t working, please contact with your reseller for help or RMA service.

    Yvon.

    Re: N299 raid degradation

Case can be closed - one HDD was dead on arrival - changed HDD slots inside the N299 and the other slot has been degraded.

    Thank you for your help,
    Arthur.
