    N4100+ Raid 5 Build Time

    Hi,

Can someone please confirm the typical raid 5 build time for an N4100+? I have four 400Gb Samsung HDD's, it has been building for around 15 hours so far and is only at 27% completion.

Does this sound normal or do I have a problem?

    Thanks in Advance.

Re: N4100+ Raid 5 Build Time

I can't remember exactky how much time it took for mine -RAID5 with 4*500GB- but this was done overnight without a doubt.

Note that there is a crucial point to have that done "quickly": you need to log out from the web UI, otherwise, as several people already noted the building time goes beyond reason.

Re: N4100+ Raid 5 Build Time

    Thanks.

It has now built (took over 4 days!!). I've only had a quick chance to look at it since it's finished and everything seems OK. I will starting copying data to it and see what the speeds are like. There are two things that may have caused an issue:

    1. Two of the drives are HD401LJ drives and two are HD403LJ (all Samsung though).
    2. Two of the drives had data on them when they were added to the raid.

Anyone know if either of these things are likely to have caused an issue, and will running the different model drives cause me problems down the track?

    Thanks Again.

    Ash

Re: N4100+ Raid 5 Build Time

    Dear Sir,

The N4100/N4100+ create/rebuild RAID 5 in average would complete 20GB per hours, if 400GB HDD would take 20 hours, but if we open the web interface to showing the RAID percentage, the speed would be slower, thus please close all web interface connection for system building the RAID in full speed.

Re: N4100+ Raid 5 Build Time

    Thanks Yvon,

It has now built and it did take around 4 days (~50-60 hours) with the web Interface closed, I opened occasionally to check progress but always closed it again.

I notice a number of people commenting on throughput tests - what is the recommended way for gathering this data?

Edit: Something I just noticed - whenever a file is copied CPU goes to 100% - is that normal?

    Thanks

Re: N4100+ Raid 5 Build Time

    Dear Sir,

Due to N4100 performance differnec from N5200, if much user access to N4100 in the same time and loaing files, the CPU usage going to full is normal.

    Yvon.
