    How can I choose which RAID array to "remove"?

    Hi,

    How can I choose which RAID array to "remove" with the Remove Raid function...?

    I ask because I tried...and got the following result.

    I have 2 RAID arrays in my 5 x 500GB N5200 Pro...

    1 = JBOD - Disk 5.
    2 = RAID5 - Disks 1,2,3,4

    I installed JBOD first and installed SYSUSER and SSHD on it.

    Then installed RAID5.

    Both have no data on them - this is purely for a test for myself.

    My plan is to have the 2 RAID arrays so that if RAID5 fails I can always access the unit using SSH because I will still have the JBOD and also I can used the JBOD as a spare for the RAID5 if one of the RAID5 degrades and I need another disks pronto.

    I would rather have the disk space useable as a temp or swap area than unused as a hot swap sitting doing nothing in the N5200.

    Anyway...

    I used the Remove Raid function to see what happens. You get no option or clear indication of which array it is going to delete.

    It just asks you to type "Yes" in and it will delete all data, blah blah

    Anyway I did that and it deleted "1" the JBOD array on disk 5.

    RAID5 on 1,2,3,4 was still there and healthy etc.

    I then recreated JBOD and it has come back as

    1. JBOD - Disk5

    It is still formatting (taking FOREVER).

    The manual for the N5200 says the following:

    "How to Remove RAID
    1. In the RAID Configuration screen click on the Remove RAID button.
    2. The system automatically rebuilds and you can create a new RAID.
    WARNING: Removing RAID destroys all data in the current RAID, and the data is unrecoverable."

    This is so vague.

    Why can't it give me a nice granular choice - E.G. "You have more than one RAID array. Select which RAID Array you wish to delete"

    That would be so much more sensible.

    When the JBOD finishes I will try deleting it again to see if it deletes.

    I want to work out what steps I will need to follow when I need to rebuild when the RAID5 fails. Call me cynical! :

    Re: How can I choose which RAID array to "remove"?

    Dear Sir,

    If this N5200 having multi RAID, please take care the MASTER RAID item, all of the additional service as like DLNA or module would store on MATER RAID, if we remove the MASTER RAID sytem would chnge the MASTER RAID to another RAID volume, but pervious additional service would removed too.

    Yvon.
