Angry How long should it take to create 1 disk 500GB JBOD array

    Hi,

I have set up a 1 disk 500GB JBOD array on my N5200 Pro. It's disk 5 (500GB). It has been running for about 6 hours now and says

RAID Status : Formatting RAID ...

How long should it take? Why is taking soooo long? Why doesn't it give me a % complete?

Formatting a drive should be quick!!!!!

what firmware version are you using?

I'm pretty sure 2.00.04 shows you the percentage.

Re: How long should it take to create 1 disk 500GB JBOD array

Yep 2.00.04 (you can see it in the top right of the pic).

Yeh for Creating RAID it shows the percentage. But it isn't for the Formatting RAID bit.

It's STILL going! I started it at 9:00am this morning - it's now 6:00pm. Crazy, Shoddy software.

It's what we Aussie's call DODGY!

Re: How long should it take to create 1 disk 500GB JBOD array

OK I've done that. In the meantime is there anything I can do. The N5200 is now unusable. Can't access it except via the GUI.

It won't let me Reboot the N5200 or Shut it down...

    "Reboot Failed.
    Critical Process is running!"

I could of course manually power it off. There is no data on it but obviously it's extremely time consuming having to build a new array.

Re: How long should it take to create 1 disk 500GB JBOD array

OK this is resolved. It ended up running for 24 hours. I physically removed the drive. Ran Samsung tests on it. Perfect drive. Then reinserted the drive. Recreated the JBOD on it. 5 minutes! Done!

    Go figure!???????????????

Re: How long should it take to create 1 disk 500GB JBOD array

I thought, "JBOD" with exactly one drive should be the same as formatting a single drive without any RAID?

Re: How long should it take to create 1 disk 500GB JBOD array

Well, if a JBOD with one single drive is NOT a just single drive but also a kind of RAID level with all disadvantages, then please note for the wishlist for further enhancements:

Being able to add single drives with no RAID level at all, but explicitly as a single drive with bare ext3 and nothing else.

Always if I read here about RAID problems and if I think what to do if all drives are OK but the Thecus hardware itself fails, then I would probably feel better if I know I can put the drives quick & dirty without any thoughts about RAID in any dumb workstation (even Windooze would be able for least to read-only-access to an ext3 drive)
