Connecting Remotely to Files on N5200PRO

Hi All, I'm another noob so go easy on me, I have a little problem:

I got a Thecus N5200BR Pro, a laptop and a pc all connected to a separate gigabit switch. (Should have bought the N5200B Pro Version I know!) The gigabit switch is also connected to a Netgear Wireless router with modem (100Mbit) which is acting as a DHCP server. Both the Laptop and PC can talk to the N5200 no probs on the LAN and access all files and talk to each other. PC, Laptop and N5200 have static internet IP address's, and the Folders on the Thecus are configured using ACL in the folder config menu. I can access the web interface from both PC and Laptop so i have no problems on the LAN side.

But, how do I access the folders on the n5200 across the internet? Do I need to forward ports on the modem/router? if so which ones? or use DMZ forwarding to the N5200? Do I use webdisk to access the files/folders using IE, if so would I type my static ip address (supplied by ISP)?
    Please help!!

    Thanks

Re: Connecting Remotely to Files on N5200PRO

    Dear Sir,

If went to access to NAS behine route from Internet, following 3 ways to publish the NAS on the internet for your reference::

    1.Public Fixed IP (most easy)
Just assign a public fixed IP on the NAS WAN/LAN1 port

    2.DMZ (easy)
Enable Router DMZ function and fill in NAS WAN/LAN1 private IP in the Router DMZ column, and then tell me the Router WAN IP.
    For Example:

    Router WAN IP is 139.175.55.244
    NAS WAN/LAN1 IP is 192.168.1.100
Enable Router DMZ function and fill in 192.168.1.100 for DMZ, thus the Router will forward all connection of 139.175.55.244 from internet to NAS
WAN/LAN1 IP 192.168.1.100, than I could access to the NAS.

3.Virtual Server (port forward) (a little difficult)
Assign port 21/22/80/443 (N199/N299: 21/22/80/443/9596) forward to NAS private IP, following case study about port 443 for your reference: Thecus About Storage.

I personally would not use the DMZ function, but instead the more complicated but secure method of port forwarding. DMZ function usually opens a bunch of ports and the N5200 has no FW included.
And open only the ports You realy have to open.
