    N2100: Adding a second disk.

NEWB QUESTION: I'm trying to add more space to my Thecus N2100 but it doesnt look like the N2100 is mounting the new disk. HELP!

I searched and didnt see anyone else complaining about this so.......

    I have an N2100: 750GB WDC WD7500AAKS-0 30.0 OK

    I Added a second Disk:

Disk No. Capacity (MB) Model Firmware Status
    1 715,404 WDC WD7500AAKS-0 30.0 OK
    2 953,869 WDC WD10EACS-00Z 01.0 OK

    I Click on RAID:

    RAID Level JBOD
    Total Capacity 702,725 MB
    Status Healthy
    Used Percentage 587,388 MB (84&#37
    Stripe Size 64 KB

    I Click Configure:

    RAID LEVEL "JBOD"

I check the 2nd disk so they are both check now.

    RAID Level
    JBOD
    1
    715,404
    WDC WD7500AAKS-0
    OK

    2
    953,869
    WDC WD10EACS-00Z
    OK

I Click configure: N2100 Says success.
I Bring up RAID again but it still says:

    RAID Level JBOD
    Total Capacity 702,725 MB
    Status Healthy
    Used Percentage 587,388 MB (84%)

Why does the Thecus not see the extra 1TB drive and add it to total capacity?!

I was thinking of breaking the JBOD RAID and trying again but it says Ill loose data now.

    HELP!!!

Re: N2100: Adding a second disk.

Okay, I clicked Remove RAID since Im JBOD now my files are visable again. Im checking my backups now Ill probably need to reformat the whole thing.

    Thoughts:
Obviously adding a second disk to a Thecus JBOD requires some ritualistic sacrifice or the use of special Crystals and a rubber chicken.

Re: N2100: Adding a second disk.

N2100 is all backed up and Im ready to start over. I think we need some detailed directions in Adding a Second disk to an N2100 after data is already written to the first disk instructions.

Hrmf, Thanks to all the users that Jumped in to help. :-P

Re: N2100: Adding a second disk.

Since most people with NAS's also have internet connectivity, maybe adding that ticket link to the raid configuration page would be wise. Or a context sensitive online manual/FAQ.

Better yet, context sensitive links to a corresponding WiKi page.
Thecus can post screen shots and directions. The wiki "discussion" tab can then be used by its useres to post findings and work around when things don't work.

Re: N2100: Adding a second disk.

I'm having exactly the same issue with 2.01.09. I've posted a ticket to Thecus, but I'd be interested in hearing how you resolved your problem?

Re: N2100: Adding a second disk.

For anyone interested, Thecus responded very promptly to my ticket. Unfortunately, I was told there was nothing I could do to fix the problem. However, I setup remote access for them so they could fix the JBOD resize manually. This took about an hour, but it's all working great now.

Did they tell you that they will correct this issue in the next firmware revision ?

    Well that doesn't help us,
Obviously they understand the issue if they were able to fix it.
I sure would like to see th commands they typed so I could reverse engineer a solution for those that had added a second jbod device.

Re: N2100: Adding a second disk.

    Dear Sir,

Due to V2.1.06 with some issue while adding 2nd HDD fro JBOD volume, thus:
    1. If we didn't adding 2nd HDD for JBOD on V2.1.06, we just need update to V2.1.09 and doing JBOD extend is fine.
    Latest version firmware: http://www.thecus.com/dl.php

    2. If we doing JBOD extend on V2.1.06 already, we just need update to V2.1.09 and reboot N2100 twice for system detected JBOD environment and fix this automatically. Once system can't resize corrently, pelase sumit a ticket from http://esupport.thecus.com/support/ and provide an IP address for us fix this manually for you.
