How Do I Map N5200 To My Vista PC?

I know this has been asked before and I have gone over and over the instructions/FAQ which explain how to do this but no matter what I try my PC does not find the shared folder on the N5200PRO.
I am probably doing something stupid but I think I need a complete idiots guide here.

I am using firmware version 2.00.04

    cheers, David

Re: How Do I Map N5200 To My Vista PC?

Have you created a new root folder on the array yet? You need to do that first. None of mine need logins

Go to Network in My Computer, Vista should then search your network and display all the devices on it. The N5200 should show up just fine. Open that up, right click on the folder you crated and map it.

That really should be all there is to it.

Re: How Do I Map N5200 To My Vista PC?

Thanks for the advice and yes the N5200 shows in the network folder but when I click on it all it does is open my web browser at the Thecus N5200 login in page.
I'm not sure what you mean in your first statement about creating a root folder on the array. I use my N5200 for streaming music to my Slim devices Squeezbox, that works OK but I want to be able to add more music from my PC to the N5200.

Re: How Do I Map N5200 To My Vista PC?

How did you get the music on there in the first place?

I also use mine with my SB3s.

Opening in you web browser is very very odd. Don't know what is going on there, that shouldn't happen.

I'll check some things later when I'm at home with mine.

Ahhh, if only... could it possibly be something to do with the N5200 not being in the same workgroup and if so how do I change the n5200 workgroup??

Re: How Do I Map N5200 To My Vista PC?

Shouldn't be, both my N5200s are in MyGroup or something, instead of the standard "workgroup".

When I get home I'll have a proper look at my config and we can take it from there.

Re: How Do I Map N5200 To My Vista PC?

Right, when i go through the Network resources in Vista (this is Vista Business 32bit btw), I get my laptop and HTPC on 'workgroup' then my two N5200s appear even though they are on 'mygroup'.

Double clicking either on the NAS boxes, gets me a listing of available shares, 'usbcopy', 'usbhdd' and 'Printers' are standard I also have 'share' set up.

To add a folder to the array, making it available to be mapped as a drive, open the Thecus admin page, log in, go to Storage -> Folder. Create a folder, make it browsable and it you make it public then there is no specific log in for that folder.

    That should be it.

I have SqueezeCenter running on one, but neither has the built in media server running on UPnP turned on.

If you are still having problems when you double click the N5200 icon, try putting "\\<thecus_ip>\" directly into the file path box in Explorer (not internet explorer.

Let me know how you get on

Re: How Do I Map N5200 To My Vista PC?

Okay I changed my vista home premium PC workgroup to 'workgroup' as it was something else, rebooted but still the same... I can see the N5200 in the network folder as before but when I double click on it my browser opens at the Thecus login page. The workgroup of the N5200 shows as 'unspecified' BTW.

Re: How Do I Map N5200 To My Vista PC?

I wouldn't, there is a problem there and if it was me I'd want it sorted.

Might be worth raising a support ticket on the Thecus website, or heading over the the Thecus User Group to see if anyone there can help.

    Thecus User Group - Home

Yvon from Thecus does read this forum, but not always that often.

Re: How Do I Map N5200 To My Vista PC?

OK maybe I'll try there as I am at a loss with this.

Aside from my problem, I see you are from Aberdeen, I work offshore myself and have been travelling up there from Yorkshire for more than 20 years and I lived in Kingswells from 2001 - 2006... small world isn't it.
