Has anyone tried this yet?
1. Would it fix the USB limitations?
2. Would it fix HDD spin down?
Cheers,

Daer Sir,
V1.00.30 BETA2 fix the WEB DISK path issue, if publish N299 on Internet via port forward 80 from NAT/ROUTE.
Yvon.
Yvon - just to clarify so that people stop asking - Will Thecus ever release a Firmware update that fixes drive spindown and USB limitations?
thanks!
Dear Sir,
N299 doesn't support SPIN DOWN fucntion, only N2100 or above model supported this fucntion.
And also woudl you please provide some information about the USB limitation?
Yvon
USB limitations = there are three ports and only two can be used !
This can be fixed by re-writing the firmware.
Cheers,
Tom
Dear Sir,
N299 hardware support 2 USB port only, due to the cost of single USB connector almost same with dual USB connector, thus why we using 2 USB connector on N299 back panel as a spare connector, it is same with N2050 too.
Yvon.
Hi,
Perfect!! WEB DISK path issue solved. It works fine from the internet to access the datas at home
via HTTPS.

Dear Sir,
The V1.00.31beta for special environmet for some user, thus we won't recommend download this.
This firmware won't erase data on the HDD, just fix some issue as like web disk path from Internet.
Yvon
thank's Yvon...
ok so no problem with my data from 1.00.26 to 1.00.30...
thank's again.

I don't think this is a reasonable answer. We already know that the N299 does not support spin down which of course can be expected from any such device, even for energy reasons. The question almost any owner of a N299 has is WHEN you will at least add this function not IF, as it is a simple question of adding this to the firmware; any harddisk usable in the N299 supports spin down and just needs a simple command sent to do so. I have no understanding why this little problem has not been solved long ago and strictly ask you to do so.

Peter
Hi Peter, Just for my personal knowledge (and anyone else that may be interested), when you refer to the HDD spin down I know a lot about computers, but not so much on the intimate workings of such, is it strictly a matter of a command being sent to the HDD and the HDD or is there more involved such as something to do with the drive controllers as well as the HDD?
thanks
Hi,
I am no expert in HDD technics but having access to the OS it would be easy to sent the disks to sleep with something like "hdparm -S60 /dev/sda". There should be no problem implementing something like this or better by a firmware upgrade. Now I can only think Thecus simply refuses to do so for reasons unknown to me. What is even more inacceptable as Thecus itself is advertising the N299 as being able to send the disks into standby. Just a quote from the European Thecus website (http://www.thecus.eu/de/135/):
"Bei längerem Nichtgebrauch werden die Platten in den Standby Modus versetzt. Das spart Strom und erhöht die Lebensdauer." Translated this says: If not used for a longer time the harddisks are sent to standby mode which saves energy and will provide longer lifetime. Advertising and reality are totally different once again.
Regards
Peter
