Unhappy Wrong MP4 support of Mediabolic mediaserver

    Hi there,

I just noticed that the Mediabolic server which comes with the Thecus NAS (I have a N2100) does not really support MP4-video. The mediaserver server handles .mp4 files if they were audio and so my client (PS3) can't handle them. Is there any way to tell the mediaserver to recognize .mp4/.m4v as video and .m4a/.m4b as audio? Or is there an update or hotfix for the mediaserver?
Since MPEG4 gains more and more popularity a fix should be neccessary anyway.

    Regards, murx007

Re: Wrong MP4 support of Mediabolic mediaserver

    Hi.

Murx, I am having the exact same issue with my N3200 on the PS3. I have even renamed the extension to ***.AVI which is mor ubiquitous but the server still thinks it as an audio file. I am sure the server supports H.264, it just characterises it wrong hence making it unplayable from the client.

Thumbs down Re: Wrong MP4 support of Mediabolic mediaserver

    Hi Alidom,

this is for sure a flaw in the Mediabolic server This must have to do with the kind of media the MPEG-4 container contains. Some files can be renamed to .avi or even .mpg and are recognized, others not.
If you copy any of your files on a stick or external drive and hook it up to the PS3 it recognizes them and plays them.

Re: Wrong MP4 support of Mediabolic mediaserver

    Hi murx007,

In the meantime I have opted for the painful option an converted all my mp4 files to Divx. I will have to continue doing this until a fix has been released. Rrrrr.

    Regards

I asked this question a while back and is apparently being looked at for an upcoming update...
