    1.5TB Seagate drives

Yes I know these are not on the compatability list yet, but has anyone used them with a N5200Pro?

I'm quickly running out of space on both my boxes so I'm looking at replacing the 5x500GB Seagates in one with 5x1.5TB drives.

    Dear Sir,

Current many user enquire about 1.5TB HDD, on theriy 1.5TB HDD should working with N5200/N5200PRO, but so far we didn't get any 1.5TB on the market yet, thus if we get the 1.5TB HDD, we would verify the compatibility and post on Thecus WEB site ASAP, also it is very appreciate to provide information about where could pruchase the retail version 1.5TB HDD too.

Thank you for replying Yvon, it is greatly appreciated.

I usually use Scan.co.uk, they have the drive listed but no stock at the moment. It might be worth contacting them to see if they have any more information. As they also stock thecus equipment they might be able to get more information for you.

    Re: 1.5TB Seagate drives

Thanks to try those 1.5 TB HDD quickly, please,
I think there is a lot of people waiting for this before they buy a new thecus 5200pro,
I believe it's on your side to do it, now you have the new 7700 that say 7 TB max it will be really interesting also to know if this support also the 1.5 TB seagate !!!!
Come on, order 7 of those and tell us yes they are ok with those two units and then your sale will increase I'm sure!
    regards.

    Re: 1.5TB Seagate drives

    Thanks,

Well it's still far from sure we can use 5 seagate 1,5 TB in the thecus 5200pro, nothing available also for the 7700, what about the 4100 pro, an advert on their web site saying : up to 6Tera is this with 4X1,5 tb or with external storage, the 1,5 doesn't figure on the 4100 compatibility list too so far???

So nothing very clear for upgrading the storage from Thecus,

At least it's very clear from LaCie 5big Network , 7,5 tb available for 1900 Euro , still waiting for the avaibality so, but will probably go for this one.

    regards

    Re: 1.5TB Seagate drives

I have 5 x 1.5tb drives purchased from overclockers.co.uk yesterday, which I will be fitting into one of my n5200pro's later today.

Will post back the results when I'm done.

5 disks installed, 5 disks all recognised, firmware 2.00.14.

Disk No. Capacity (MB) Model Firmware Status

    2 1,430,799 ST31500341AS SD17 OK
    3 1,430,799 ST31500341AS SD17 OK
    4 1,430,799 ST31500341AS SD17 OK
    5 1,430,799 ST31500341AS SD17 OK

Need to reset networking, then I will commence raid config. Not expecting this to be quick though I am going for raid 0 (don't need protection).

    Re: 1.5TB Seagate drives

They are working fine with the N5200Pro!
I use them with Raid5 and Stripe Size 128 Kb

BUT DO NOT USE THEM WITH THE NEW N7700!!!
I have got the new N7700 for three days and have building up a Raid5
with 7 x 1,5 HDD from Seagate with Stripe Size 256 Kb.

In this first three days I have lost my Raid5 (degraded) three times while
I was coping files and folders from the N5200 to the N7700
or i wanted to look a movie and the N7700 was hanging, no reaction and
then the N7700 was building every time a new raid!!!!!!!

With the N5200Pro everything is working properly!!

    Best regards

    Rainer

    Re: 1.5TB Seagate drives

Hi, This may be a stupid question. I have two 1TB drives in a N5200 Pro running on RAID5. Can I put in three more 1.5TB drives? Will this cause a problem during the migration or stability of the RAID?

    Re: 1.5TB Seagate drives

Yes you can use a higher capacity drive without an issue, the only problem is you will only use the first 1TB of the 1.5TB drives. The only way to get at the unused space is to replace the existing 1TB drives with 1.5TB drives.

Taking delivery of N7700 tomorrow, was going to order the Seagate 1.5TB drives, but now worried.

Have you had any response from Thecus folk?

Has anybody else tried this combo N7700 with 7x1.5TB ST31500341AS
