(Question) Best way to migrate from N5200Pro to N7700??

I have 5Tbs full in an N5200 PRO...

I just purchased an N7700 and would like to migrate all my data from the N5200 to the N7700.

Yvonne said if I simply take out the drives from N5200 and put them in the N7700, it will NOT work... Is this true?

Otherwise... do I have to repopulate the array from my Computer, over the gigabit network.. or is it faster to repopulate using NSync or etc?

What would you guys do... best way to migrate all the data over to the N7700, from an N5200

Re: (Question) Best way to migrate from N5200Pro to N7700??

Does anybody have any advice/opinions.. it would help. please

    thank you

im receiving 2x N7700 tomorrow and I have all my original data on FW800 drives, and one N5200Pro with all data current on there also.. the N5200 has 5 1.5tb seagates in raid5 also.

whats the best way to populate the N7700s

    1. transfer drives from thecus 5200Pro to N7700 -- i heard it doesnt work, i dont know though????
    2. Transfer everything from external hard drives and Mac tower, over network to N5200 in real time.. will take about 60 hours
    3. Do some sort of NSync between N5200 and N7700 over network.. never done it , so dont know if it preserves the same folders and etc...

    Please help thanks

Re: (Question) Best way to migrate from N5200Pro to N7700??

I asked this question to Thecus:

I have 5Tbs full in an N5200 PRO...

Im receiving 2x N7700 tomorrow and I have all my original data on
Firewire 800 drives, and one N5200Pro with all data current on there
also.. the N5200 has 5 1.5tb seagates in raid5 also.

whats the best way to populate the N7700s -- The N7700 will have 7x
    1.5tb in Raid 5 also

    1. transfer drives from thecus 5200Pro to N7700 -- i heard it doesnt
    work, i dont know though????
    2. Transfer everything from external hard drives and Mac tower, over
network to N5200 in real time.. will take about 60 hours
    3. Do some sort of NSync between N5200 and N7700 over network.. never
done it , so dont know if it preserves the same folders and etc...

    Please help thanks

    ---

    and they responded:

that options #2 and #3 are ok, and will take a lot of time. (I knew that)
they said they are looking into if option 1 works.. if raided drives from n5200 would work as drop in , for the N7700

    ----------
    What would you guys do?

Just updating everybody... that option #1 --- taking disks from N5200 and putting them into an N7700 ,,,, works perfectly.

They dont even have to be in the same order...

Just literally take your discs out of the N5200pro.. mount them in the new sleds/trays of the N7700... start the NAS... and your array is back and everything is back

It will be the same EXT3 or etc, file structure you had, and ALL folders, etc are intact

    So... just letting everyone know.

I asked Thecus this question 2 months ago and their support said NO its not possible.

Im confirming that the answer is the opposite in fact, the answer is Yes --- it works absolutely fine
