    5 TB - Raid 5 config - 1 hdd warning

    Hi,
I've just noticed from the Disks Information screen of my N5200BR (not Pro) one of my hdd, a Seagate 1 TB, which is inserted in slot 1, is being reported as "warning" .
Let me check with you wether I've understood correctly the manual (pag. 78 of N200PRO_UM_V11_EN.pdf) or not:
    - just have to remove the damaged hdd e replace it with a new one
    - The system automatically recognizes the new hard disk and starts the auto-rebuild sequence to resume its status before the hard disk crash

Thus, no specific "settings procedure" (expansion, migration, rebuild....) has to be followed, right? Just remove and replace?

    Edit:
Well I've followed exactly these steps inserting a brand new Samsung HD103UJ 1 TB hdd, but no auto rebuild has took place!
Furthermore now the system reports RAId as degraded status!!!
New disk is recognized and is reported as OK, but it's not part of the RAID.
The only option I have entering the RAID menu is "remove RAID".....

    Submitted a ticket to Thecus.
    problems, problems, problems....

    Re: 5 TB - Raid 5 config - 1 hdd warning

Thanks, but I just followed those exact steps and all I got after 20 hrs processing was:
    • warned hard disk placed in slot number 3 (it was running fine before)
      and raid status: DAMAGED

Then I rebooted my system and now it's trying to rebuild the RAID (65% so far...)
    How could this happen?
Thought this was a professional product....

    Re: 5 TB - Raid 5 config - 1 hdd warning

    well, here it is...

    Unbelievable.
As a side note the hdd in slot 3 was running fine (no errors, no pendinf sectors and so on) until the rebuilding took place.
Furthermore the raid status moved from healthy to degraded and now damaged.
I just hope not to loose my data.
Nay hint on how to proceed now is more than appreciated.
    Thanks

    Re: 5 TB - Raid 5 config - 1 hdd warning

the fact you replaceced a seagate drive with a smasung drive really didnt help. its simple common knowledge that raids should be created with matching identical brand and capacity drives, there are very few exceptions to the cae ( the drobo ) being one. so this time round i wouldnt be pointing the blame just at thecus
