    n7700 True speed ? how MB/sec really ?

    Yvon @ Thecus,

One spokesman of Thecus from support (Jone Chung), submited me a report using ATTO Benchmark utility with the following stats:

    N7700 Firmware version: v2.01.06
We did not enable jumbo frame function between N7700 and other network device.
We conect N7700 and PC to a Gigibit switch.
Create RAID 6 and ZFS file system with 5 WD WD10EADS-00L 1TB HDD
Used Percentage 10% for Date (273.7GB), other Percentage 90% for iSCSI (2509.2GB), Total Capacity is 2788.9 GB
TEST Software: ATTO disk benchmark v2.34 (Please see the attachment N7700_iscsi_zfs.png)

According to it, he managed to get about 40MB/sec benchmark (you may view the stats he got at http://uploaded.to/?id=c9siik)

Though the review found at storagerevies (http://www.storagereviews.co.uk/?p=36 ) using the same benchmark utility massively larger specs (80-90 MB/sec!!!)

Can anyone please explain me what causes this dramatic difference ?

Is the review found at storagereviews an objective one and if it is how can this twice as much difference be explained ? How can one achive such a speed using the n7700 box ?

Well one is RAID-5 the other is RAID-6. Jone Chung also used ZFS as opposed to EXT3 which I would guess is what Storagereview used, they don't say.

The number of drive may also make a difference, I'm not sure.

    7 WD10EADS in raid6 using Ext3 and SMB
I think Jumbo Frames was set to 9k during this test, but not sure.

    Dear Sir,

This 40MB/sec base on a 5 years old PC, the performance would depend on client PC either difference, this PC's hardware configuration for your reference:

    CPU: Intel Celeron 2.4G
    MB: ABIT IS-10 V1.0
    RAM: Trscend DDR-400 512MB
    HDD: Seagate 80G IDE
    OS: WIN XP SP3
    LAN: DLINK DGE-530T

    So Yvon,

What is the ultimate setup of running a raid6 mode with 5 x WD WD10EADS-00L 1TB HDD, in zfs system and how much speed would officially get ?

Please provide official tests and benchmark so that I would decide an upgrade accordignly.

    Waiting for your advise.

    Yvon,

    Ηow about raid6 ?

How much should one normally expect, with a decent system (define), using 5 x WD WD10EADS-00L 1TB HDD, in zfs, raid6 mode ?
