Im having problems every few days with the N7700. It was working great for a few days, no issues at all. Really happy with it actually
Then I tried to remotely access it and pull off a big file.. 1gb... it stalled and then shut down and now... standing in front of the unit.. trying everything, it wont power on.
Ive read on the forum that other users have experienced this and it was an old, dead CR battery inside. Can you guys comment if you have any opinions?
This is the letter I wrote to Thecus

Hi Thecus,
I really need your help. I have been using the Thecus N7700 and its great, no problems.
Accessing it over the https:// remotely and also internally on the network.
I have 7x Seagate 1.5Tbs in there, with EXT3 and raid5.. its working great
I transferred 5Tbs of data to it.. and everything working good.
Now.. I tried to access remotely and was able to log in and go to th folders using ACL and everything ok
I downloaded some files.. ok.. everything ok
THen i Tried to download a big file 1GB. It was waiting for 10-15mins no response.
So i closed the internet browser (FireFox)
THen I was able to access it INTERNALLY using 192.168.0.191 and saw that everything ok, nothing strange in the log
But the HTTPS:// still frozen... now after 3 hours.. https:// remotely... stil frozen and now internally 192.168.0.191 also frozen
I looked at the front of the unit... Unit is turned off... OK.. turn it back on.
NO.. its dead... the LEDs flickers for 1/2 second and then unit turns off again.
I cant get it to turn on..
I tried removing all drives.. nothing... no change
I tried removing power cable and holding down power button, putting power cable back to wall.. nothing.
I tried removing ethernet cable.. nothing
I read online that this has been a problem in the past with old CR Rom batteries.. Can you see this below. And give me your advice.
People are saying NOT to rma the unit, just replace the $1 battery, do you have any ideas.
the unit is just turned off now.. i cant get it back ON
Please help, check below also
thanks

here is a thread from the forum sounds like our problem... He is saying if you unplug the device from the wall... and presws and hold power button, and then plug power cable back into wall/ups... then it works.. this DID NOT work for me. I have the same situation as him.. They are ALL saying on the forums to use a new CR battery
"It look like some of you guys have had success by simply replacing the backup battery with a fresh one.
So far, I have not tried this, but I have found one way around the problem.
First, I'd like to describe the problem itself:
1. Machine is turned off
2. Plug power cable in
3. Hit on button (nothing happens)
4. Play around with power cable (still nothing happens)
5. Play around with power cable some more
6. About 5% of the time, the machine actually WILL turn on!!!! But due to some terrible BIOS problems, it gets itself into a bit of a state. It *looks* like it's booted up correctly, but really it hasn't - and because it's in a dodgy state, you have to pull the power plug to get it to switch off (as the button doesn't work)
OK, so I've been experimenting with a few ideas:
1. Try taking the hard drives out (maybe they are drawing too much voltage?). No effect
2. Try repeatedly unplugging/replugging the unit (might sometimes turn on, but half the time it doesn't boot up correctly)
The best idea that I found was the following:
1. Unplug the device
2. Press and hold the power button
3. Plug the power cable in
This *seems* to work every time (so far anyway)! It's almost as if you plug the power cable in, the motherboard gets some power and decides that it doesn't want to turn on. The fact that the power button is on when you put the power cable in seems to somehow bypass this. Almost as if it doesn't get a chance to decide it doesn't want to turn on - like you sort of catch it before it gets a chance.
I hope that this post makes some sense to some people?
In the meantime, I'm going to purchase a new battery and see if that makes a difference
Thanks
