Copying from n5200 to usb hard drive is very slow

I have a LaCie 500gb usb hard drive. I plugged it into the usb port on the front of the 5200.

I unmounted the usb drive and remounted it using the ntfs3g driver for read/write support.

    I did a

    cp -R /raid0/data/folder /mnt/myusb

but it is TERRIBLY slow. It is taking over 4 hours to copy roughly 90gb. What gives?

I had the same experience and assume that this is caused by the ntfs3g drivers. Now I use a ext3 formatted disc connected via esata or usb and the speed is fine.

Now I'm having an added issue. When I plug the USB drive in "setfacl" seems to indefinitely grind on it, so I can't umount.

Re: Copying from n5200 to usb hard drive is very slow

I would be extremely appreciative of any help I can get. All I need to be able to do is get data from the NAS onto a usb hard drive. It's turning out to be difficult. I would rather not go through the network because I don't want all of the extra network traffic, not to mention I was assuming the local USB port would have been faster.

Is it safe to kill setfacl, and why is it grinding on the usb drive?
