Gonzo, thanks. I am no expert but willing to learn what's needed. Is there a "idiots guide" to this sort of stuff or should I cruise the forums etc?
Re: Moving USB COPY stuff
linux aint for idiots and it runs rings round me.. but you may be better off looking on the thecus usergroup forums
http://www.onbeat.dk/thecus/index.php/N5200_Module_List

Ok, I know Linux very well, been running it 16+ yrs
What mods do I need to load besides, SSH, to loginto the box?
I will have my N7700 on Wednesday and I am raring to go!
Questions:
Is the 5200 module list ok for the 7700?
Is the rename thing they talk about on that page needed for the 7700?
Re: Moving USB COPY stuff
see my previous post, that single mod should to it
Re: Moving USB COPY stuff
Just one thing I want to mention. When I talked to tech support they told me that if I enabled SSH or Telnet to the Thecus that I would void my warranty.
Just keep that in mind

Don't think that this is true.
a) thecus has build in the possibility to enhance the box via modules
b) they even give instructions how to build them
I've not accept any agreement that contains such a sentence on buying this box.
What I do understand that they reject to solve problems related to modules.
And not to forget - the ability to enhance the functionality by modules is for many people the number one reason to buy this boxes.

Re: Moving USB COPY stuff
I am just going by what I was told by tech support over the phone because I wanted to enable SSH myself.
Q) Can I enable SSH on my Thecus N7700?
A) Yes we are aware of modules that enable SSH but be forwarned if you enable SSH you will void the warranty.
This scared me enough not do it?
Has anyone gotten any warranty work done after enabling SSH?
Re: Moving USB COPY stuff
well worst case u have to flash the firmware via USB, support dont like to troubleshoot stuff they aint made, best bets not to tell them anything
Re: Moving USB COPY stuff
Decided not to mess with anything and just copy over the LAN (took hours and hours).
I have a different problem now (see my other post re reboot and losing all the config, raid and data).
Thanks all. I hope others braver than I will find your posts useful.
Re: Moving USB COPY stuff
I extracted the SSH and SYSUSER modules and the "install.rdf" file seems to set the target NAS type to n5200. When I uploaded the SSH module to my N7700, it didn't take it.
What I am wondering is that whether the change in the target NAS type in install.rdf file is the ONLY modification that is needed to make this work on an N7700?
I also noticed from comments in some area that the files are provided in source code form and that they need to be built using a regular Make process.
Thoughts?
Re: Moving USB COPY stuff
Needed to unzip the file and upload the .MOD file.
Re: Moving USB COPY stuff
will PHPFILEMGR work on N2200?
