(NSYNC ADVICE) Or somthing similar.. please give opinions

IM trying to NSYNC one N7700 to another N7700 which is backup.
Im doing on the internal network now, to get it completely backed up.

and then i will bring #2 offsite, and have them do weekly backups of eachother.

So. I have 6 folders on my Thecus #1 with lots of files in them.. and NSYNC has worked through 5 of them, no problems.

It got to one folder with probably Million or + files in there... and it went through halfway and said.. NSYNC SUCCESS, finished... when its truly only half way through.. I guess it crashed

Ive tried rerunning NSYNC on this folder for about 5 days now.. and it just wont make it through this big heavy folder.

I know I can probably break up the Archive folder that its having problems with, into 3-4 smaller folders, and it may get through them... but is there a better solution here..

I can use something like ChronoSync or etc... from another mac on the network, and it can do the weekly backups.. But I prefer the two N7700's to talk with one another, without another computer in the mix.

Can you guys let me know what you do with having one Thecus local, and one offsite... I tried RSYNC a few months ago but it seemed pretty involving with SSH and etc etc... I can probably get it... but any advice would be great

    Thanks
    P

I am assuming you have the same file system on both (not sure if this would matter anyway). Have you tried different bandwith settings? Perhaps choosing a lower setting would help with a large number of files.

Unfortunately I only have one Thecus so I can't offer you much more advice. You could try calling tech support. They don't respond very with email but they do answer the phone.

ON the NSYNC page for me, the BANDWITH setting is not selectable.. it says Unlimited and Apply, but both are shaded out and I cant select them

Strange...I see what you mean. Mine is also greyed out. I looked at the manual and it talks about the bandwidth setting so it should be able to be set. Not sure why this is not configurable.

I would again recommend you contact Thecus Tech support.

    Just some other basic questions

    What firmware are you using?
Is it greyed out on both of your Thecus devices?

I would be interesting to see if it is greyed on a Thecus without the non-beta firmware.

Can anyone not running the beta firmware check to see if the Nsync bandwidth setting is greyed out?

does anybody have any advice for syncing two Thecus units together.. one in the studio, and one on location?

NSYNC is crashing after 10-12 hours on big folders of files

should i break the big folder into 2-3-4 smaller folders? is there anyway to regulate the bandwith, increase or etc... or move to RSYNC completely
    what do you guys think

How big is the folder? Over 2TB?

I would think there might be a 2TB limit to nsync, since there is a 2TB limit to file size and Nsync sends the folder as one big file to the destination.

my folder is about 3.5TB, with lots of photos and files inside. But when i check the target folder, where NYSYNC is putting files on the N7700 #2.. i dont see single files.. its broken up into the same hierarchy as my original N7700. DOCS, MUSIC, PHOTOS, SOFTWARE, etc.. and everything is individual folders.. not FILES... so there is not one big file there

    You misunderstood.

nsync probably sends all the files in one big zip-like file.

UltraVNC and a few other find that is a quicker xfer medium.

It zips them all up, sends them as one big file and unzips them at the other end.
    ?? Possible?

    Great!

I knew that was the problem. 2TB seems to be a limit for alot of stuff in the industry right now.

Remember the 8.1G limit years back?

And the 32meg limit way back

Re: (NSYNC ADVICE) Or somthing similar.. please give opinions

any help appreciated guys.. its been months with TWO N7700's and i cant use the 2nd one as a backup

I have folders of photographs that are 3TB in size.. and because NSYNC zips it and then extracts it, on the other side.. a single file is > 2TB... shoudl i use RSYNC... or another computer to mitigate the transfering...
    with chronosync or superduper, etc

i would like to just use the two N7700s to talk to one another, without another computer

    thanks for the help
