    Re: (noisy) n7700 fans

my 7 ST31500341AS (seagate 1.5tb) get up to max 36 with standard fans in my shiny new n7700. in my old n5200 (non pro) they got up to beyond 50, which i really didn't like... i had replaced the original fans there with pabst fans, tried a low capacity and a high capacity one but it didn't make much difference...

do you know how those new fans compare to the original ones in terms of capacity? i.e. the amount of air they can move (m³/h)?

    cheers,
    o

fans is not to be taken lightly....

Closest specs I could find for the stock fan are here http://www.addausa.com/specifications/92-120.pdf, not the exact ref, but I guess around 29-32 CFM if I look at closest models.
Here are the specs of the Noctua: http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/pro...ans/nf-b9-1600, it's almost 38CFM, so I decided it would be fine. In fact it would probably still be fine with the LNA (31CFM), but I'll play with this when I get my disks.

I agree with you, one shouldn't with fans lightly

    Both of mine have noctuas

The cabinet temp is 10 degrees higher because of bad air flow, but still ok

ah okay, thanks, I misunderstood your former post were you said you had one n7700 sounding like a rocket and another one almost silent...

i see two more fans going on... the 40mm in the PS and i think a 40mm on a cpu ???

can you tell me if those two sizes are correct and what brands i should buy?

Unfortunately, you're going to have to do a bit of experimenting here, I haven't opened the N7700, I just went for the obvious upgrades. Yes the PS fan is a 40mm, but I have no idea whether the connectins are standard or whether you'll have to solder (which I don't mind doing but which will obviously void warranty). I'm not sure there is a fan on the CPU, it looked like a simple rad, so you'd have to check that.

Let us know if you find any part that do the trick, but don't have the time at the moment to investigate further.... Sorry.

I don't think Noctua does 40mm, so I guess I would try one of these http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/40mmfans.

Scythe is a good brand, I would try the 10mm deep one after checking that it provides the same airfolw of more than the stock ones, as it's quieter than the 20mm deep one (which may not fit in the PS anyway, depending on how much room you have in there). Be aware that this mod WILL VOID the guarantee of your brand new N7700. If you replace the CPU fan, make sure use use the right thermal paste and apply it the right way (google if you're not sure of what to do).

Also the problem with changing the PS fan is that you have no way to know if the PS is overheating or not, while the two main fans are cooling the HDs, so it's obvious when they are not performing the way they should.

Good luck, and let us know what you do, and which result you get (both from a temp and noise POV).

    Re: (noisy) n7700 fans

ok Manni, open it up.. super super easy to open it up.. 6 screws.. 4 more.. easy... Power supply opened up.. small 40mm fan in there, noisy to me.. just plugs in with red and black wires to MB in PS.. super easy

so this PS fan is an
    ADDA
    DC Brushless
    Model AD0412HB C50
    .10A ADDA Corp

    The power supply model is
    Enhance Electronics Ltd
    Model No: Flex-0130D
    300W PS

There is one more fan in the Thecus.. on the heatsink over the CPU.
It is a no name brand 40mm with red, black and yellow wires coming out and attach to MB just like the case fan

the way the fan is attached to the CPU heatsink is very low-fi... 4 screws into the heatsink fins just screwed into it.. and those fins kind of bend with the width of the screw.. its very low-fi.. but it works..
this fan is also noisy to me

OK>. so.. replacing these fans are as easy as the case fans we already did

please please,, recommend me 2 40mm fans that are Much better than these two in the unit.. im trying to get the noise down even lower.

Right now with the jet engines gone, all i can hear is the higher pitched sound of the 2x 40mm fans.
so what are the best 40mm fans, quietest

thanks manni.. ill jsut purchase from quietPc if you can think of the best model
