Hi,

My Windows 7 clients can sync offline files with Windows 2003 file share; however, when attempting to sync offline files with N5500 file share, sync fails with error, “The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.”

How do I resolve this error and get Windows 7 Offline Files working with the N5500?

The Windows 7 clients and the N5500 are members of the same domain with clocks synchronized to same source. Windows 7 client users are members of the same domain and have full control NTFS rights to N5500 share folders being synchronized.

The same “process cannot access the file…” error occurs with N5500 XFS (RAID 10) and EXT3 (JBOD) file systems.

According to other support forum postings, it appears this may be caused by Opportunistic locking (OpLocks).

I read in “Offline files and N5200” posted way back in 19-05-2007 by mtcsltd that the offline sync error was resolved with a firmware upgrade.

Is this fixed in “N5500_N7700_N7700SAS_N8800_N8800SAS_FW_beta_3.00.07.bin” from the Thecus Downloads Beta? My N5500 is in production with all of our data. I don’t have a second N5500 to test in a lab.

I’m aware of SyncToy and other file sync utilities and scripts I can write; however, they do not meet my user requirements.

Setup:
  • N5500 firmware v3.00.04.
  • Disks 1, 2, 5: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB.
  • Disks 3, 4: Western Digital Corp WD15EADS-00P 1.5TB.
  • RAID 10 with XFS: Disks 1, 2, 3, 4.
  • JBOD with EXT3: Disk 5.
  • Samba/CIFS: Samba Service enabled; File Access Cache enabled.
  • ADS/NT Support enabled.
  • Share Folders include My Documents, Backup and others with ACLs configured.

o Folder share: Browseable Yes; Public No.
o Folder ACLs: User is member of Domain Group granted Writeable (NTFS effective permissions = full control)

Thanks,
