Re: (How to setup) Email notification with GMAIL
Have you got authentication setup?
Seems you need to set up SSL I believe for the Google servers to allow the email to be sent.
Re: (How to setup) Email notification with GMAIL
the options under auth are the following,
on
plain
cram-md5
login
off
im assuming it would be ssl ?
Re: (How to setup) Email notification with GMAIL
in the newest firmwaRE, there is an option under AUTH for gmail .. but still i cant get this to work

Re: (How to setup) Email notification with GMAIL
tried 25, 465, 587.. nothing works.. is it a router firewall problem?
does anyone else have this working through gmail?

Re: (How to setup) Email notification with GMAIL
Just a shot in the dark:
Is Your N7700 connected to Your network via the LAN or WAN port - if it is connected via the LAN port, then please check it with the connection via the WAN port.
And have You configured DNS? - this must be done in the WAN menue.
If Your firewall allows traffic through the ports 25, 465 or 587 can only be checked from You - the N7700 has no firewall.

ok i got it to work.. thanks peter.. big time
you need to have the ethernet cable plugged into the WAN, and under WAN services.. the DNS server box needs to be filled in.. mine is the same as the gateway box... 192.168.0.1 for my dlink router
other than that
go into system and notification, and fill out normally and i used port 587 for gmail
everything is working and its a pleasure now
thank you for the DNS tip, it fixed everything.. thank you

I remember :)
The DNS settings are not placed very popular in the WEB UI - especially when using the LAN port for connection and it's also not documented that some functions are only working on the WAN port.

I was having the same problem, but seems like the DNS box is disabled, since I have the N7700 configured to obtain its IP address through my Airport Extreme router. Should I just fake it by disabling DHCP, entering the DNS IP addresses and re-enabling it?
Shouldn't the N7700 get the router's DNS settings in the DHCP anyways though?
Re: (How to setup) Email notification with GMAIL
hmm, DHCP should distribute the DNS.
From my experience with the N5200, DHCP on the WAN makes a lot of trouble - so may be You switch over to fix IP and enter all manually.

Even with manual IP configuration, I don't get the test email. When I switch the port to 465 and hit TEST, the web GUI goes into a "Waiting for response from the server...." mode and never completes the HTTP request.
If I go look at the device, netstat shows an open connection to Gmail SMTP server at port 465 and that never completes.
BTW, looking at the source code of the notif.htm form, I see that the password field is limited to 12 characters. My password is longer than 12, and that may be causing an authentication issue with Gmail as well.
If Thecus is reading these boards, can you guys please increase the size of the password field to 32 characters?
