    N8800 and AFP

Anyone having any luck with AFP and the N8800. I have upgraded to the latest firmware 2.01.08, reformatted to XFS. smb://storage works fine from a mac, afp://storage or even the full ip does not work. AFP is enabled and set to the right zone. Any ideas?

    Ron

    Re: N8800 and AFP

I actually have XFS and AFP working. The strange bit was that it looked like it seriously messed up the n8800 for a while. I.e. the n8800 became unresponsive and it took several reboots for it to work properly again. Eventually, it worked. At least it sees to work.

File was uploaded to support on May 26th. No replies, comments, nothing. Support has been very slow, not up to a standard I would expect.

    Re: N8800 and AFP

    Finally an update:
    Hi Ron,
We apologize for the extreme delay in responding to you.
Can you run a Filesystem Check to see issue improves. Disable AFP before running Filesystem check.
Otherwise, can you setup remote access to you MAC, so we may connect to it to test and see why AFP is not connecting.
For your reference, Mac OS X has built in VNC Remote Connection support, or free remote software that supports Mac OS X for connecting as following,
    http://www.teamviewer.com/download/index.aspx
If you prefer not to setup a remote connection, the only other option is to backup data, delete RAID Array and re-create from scratch.
    Best Regards !

    My Reply:
I have ran a file check with afp off. No errors reported. Rebooted system, could only see NASwebsite folder. Created new folder made it browseable and public (same as naswebsite) and I can connect to it. Once I turn off PUBLIC I can no longer see the folder. I connect by afp://servername. Could this be the issue? Seems I cannot set acls on a public folder.

    Their Reply:
This still does not make any sense, AFP is one of the basic functions of N8800, and it does work.
We still suggest to backup all data, delete and re-create RAID.
Additionally, we have just released v2.01.09 firmware for N8800. Upgrade to new firmware then re-create RAID Array.

    My Last reply:
    Upgraded to v2.01.09 firmware.
Deleted entire raid. Recreated with 8 1TB drives, raid 5 and XFS.
    Created new folder, assigned ACLS.
Tried connecting from a Mac with OSX 10.4.
afp://storage can only see naswebsite folder, not the newly created folder.
    smb://storage can see all folders.
AFP still seems to not work on any folder unless it is Public with no acl list.

    Re: N8800 and AFP

    Final Update:

    From thecus:
We apologize for delay in responding to you.
Please refer to N7700/N8800 firmware release note about known issue at the following address:
    http://www.thecus.com/Downloads/N770...WRN_v20109.pdf

    [Known Problems]
    8. AD users cannot access file via AFP on MAC OS.

    Best Regards !

So it looks like if you have ad users they cannot use afp to connect to the server...

    Re: N8800 and AFP

Have you tried using smb to connect to the 8800?

I am running mac osx 10.4.11 and 10.5. and found afp to be troublesome due to the apple updates..

I now use SMB without any problems, something to bear in mind is the naming of files ie no spaces at the end of filenames etc, if you have your data backed up you can run scripts on it to convert the filenames to be windows friendly ( I Used ' A BETTER FINDER RENAME 7 )

I still have minor issues with photoshop on 0sx 10.5 and N5200 but all easliy fixed with work arounds,

I have come to the conclusion the problems are being caused by apple updates...but touch wood all good at the moment

    Re: N8800 and AFP

SMB works fine. Just trying to get the AFP to work as they promised when I purchased the unit.
