Adding a new HD to N7700

I currently have 4 HD in a N7700. I plan on adding an additional HD. Can someone please verify how to add this drive to a RAID 5 setup. Do I expand, migrate....? When I added the 3rd HD to the system and I performed a Migrate, I think this was wrong, it took over a day to migrate.

    Thanks

Re: Adding a new HD to N7700

adding a third drive does involve a migration as you are changing from one RAID type to another. adding an aditional drive to an existing RAID-5 array will just be an expension.

It will take a long time though, there is a lot of data to be read a written while it is doing this. The larger the drives the longer it will take. I think it too 36hours to add another 1TB drive to my N5200 last time I did it.

Do I a add it as a spare and then perform another task. Can you add a few steps for me? I appreciate it.

Re: Adding a new HD to N7700

Sorry to correct You Funkstar, but the way it is working is like following:
    1) add new HD
    2) DO NOT mark it as spare
    3) do know a raid migration - from a 4 disc RAID5 to a 5 disc RAID5
    4) now wait, and wait, and wait,..........
    5) after it has finished to a expansion
    6) then afterwards may be a space allocation

It is a good idea to backup data beforer starting the migration.

My mistake, it's a while since I've added new drives to an array
