RESOLVED Bad permissionning on files on an N4100+, cannot delete them

    Hi guys,

I have an N4100+ with a bunch of movie files on it (amongst a squillion other files!). It is shared as a Windows share on my laptop and as an NFS share on my Tvix M5100SH media streamer.

All of the files were copied up to it from my laptop, however a number of them have the permissionning set to Everyone Read Only then two random SID's, one also with read only and one with Full Control. There is nothing there with the username from the laptop even though that's the user that copied the files up to the NAS.

Because Everyone only has Read Only on these files I can't delete them! I have tried taking ownership, I've tried resetting the parent permissions, I've tried changing effective permissions and copying inherited permissions, all to ACCESS DENIED. I've even tried booting my laptop with ERD Commander 2005 and mapping the drive, to try to delete the files or take ownership -again ACCESS DENIED.

Is there any way of deleting these files??? Can the ACL be rewritten on the NAS via the web portal for specific files? Even if not can it be rewritten for the whole share without risking my data? I've got 2Tb of data on this NAS - it's got my whole life on it!! - give or take and it's on RAID 5 so I'd like to avoid having to copy the data I want, reformat then copy back again if I can help it!!!

    Many thanks in advance all.
    Cheers

how did you solve your issue?

my neighbor has the same problem.... he's just not keen on trusting user boards for some dumb reason.

Log on as Admin, create a user account, then log off and back on as the user account. Now rather than being able to administer the NAS you have a file browser instead and can delete files there (you can't rename them though).
