Thecus N3200pro. Hard-drives never stop and lights always flash

Hi.

I recently purchased a Thecus N3200 pro and have setup in RAID 5.

After first setting it up and turning it on, it was a very nice quiet unit on idle. However, after copying all my movies and music onto the hard-drives, the hard-drives have not stopped or have gone back to idling (with no activity).

The three lights are constantly flashing even when I am not playing any movies or copying any files. At night the sound of the clicking of the hard-drives is noticeable.

I've never setup anything in RAID 5 before, so I'm not sure if this is normal? Do the hard-drives ever get a rest?

Hi,
maybe it is a build of raid... Have you checked system logs from N3200pro web interface?
You can also check in Storage/Raid Information the status of the raid.
Usually building of raid is very long.

yes, I am unfortunately. The hard-drives are still flashing madly...

It has definitely finished building the RAID.

Everything else seems to be working fine. My worry is that the hard-drives will burn out with the constant work.

Any suggestions?

You can try to disable media server in Network / Media Server web interface... Maybe the media server is scanning your folders and can't finish before another scan starts. Just a try...

I disabled the media server and it fixed it.

The media server has been very disappointing anyway. Files that the PS3 can usually play came up as 'unsupported data'.

I like this NAS for the extra storage and RAID5, but it's extra features like the media server and download manager are not working very well for me.

To play media on your PS3, use the Twonky module. Plays most things perfectly!
As for the download manager, that's a lost cause IMO.
