    N7700 and WD RE4-GP (WD2002FYPS) problem!!!

Let's make this strait, there is big problem with the N7700 and those 2TB drives...
Raid 5 degraded already two times....
Hope I don't lose my data, when I will rebuilt the raid as it automatically show disk 3 as a spare and I have to click on "apply"... that I will do in a near future but waiting for a good firmware update from Thecus.

WE ARE Waiting and at least if some thecus representative could tell us they are working on it and it's on a good way, that will help...

Too much money spend for this bad result...

I have also a n5500 with 5 1TB seagate, work perfectly so far, don't make me lose my trust in your company....

    Regards

    Re: N7700 and WD RE4-GP (WD2002FYPS) problem!!!

    Well,

I took 8 of those wd re4 2tb disks and put them in a Dell with Perc/6 controller

Did full rebuild/consistency check, took 27 hours

Put 4.1TB on them, now in constant use.

    NO ERRORS, NONE

I had them in my Thecus, had errors almost immediately

So, something in their algorythm is BAD

    Thanks philhu,
Well as nearby as i am, it doesn't sound good for my 7700 and 7 re4, i will wait for a while to see if thecus manage to sort this problem out, if no, i will go for another brand like you did of course, what a shame , all this money spend and what disapointment!
    regards

    Re: N7700 and WD RE4-GP (WD2002FYPS) problem!!!

Well, I relegated my N7700 as a backup storage for my Dell systems

It is connected with 7 1tb RE3 drives on the shelf from the upgrade.

    It works like that well.

I cancelled my order for 4 N7700SAS units because of all this

My Dell does a faster job for xfer, does unix nfs, does iScsi, does Autobackups, and full windows permissions allowed!!!

Kind of does all I ever wanted, and it runs W2K8, so i can add what I want.

Now it was more money (1U Pc/3U MD1000 enclosure from EBAY was $3300), but it works so muc h better

After a new rebuilt , red light for HDD 5!!
But raid healthy, and all HDD ok???????
That's new, I stop the N7700 and will restart when new official release from thecus resolve this....may be one day...
