    Moving from N5200 to N7700

Im thinking of replacing my N5200 with a N7700, can I just move all my disks from the N5200 to the N7700? Will it detect them auto or do I need to something to make them work like in the N5200?

Re: Moving from N5200 to N7700

I've heard of others doing this, and as both units effectively use the same software and similar (or perhaps the same) SATA controller there shouldn't be a problem. The array should just appear when connected.

    However it isn't supported.

The recomended procedure would be to create a fresh array and copy your data across.

    Thank you for the answer.

About the N7700, can I add more drives later and extend the the size of my raid 5 with no dataloss?

Re: Moving from N5200 to N7700

Yes, just like the N5200, you can do an on line RAID volume expansion. It is a slow process though and you have to do it in two parts. First off you add the new drive to the array. Then you need to expand the volume to fill that new space. It doesn't do this automatically because you might want to use the new space for an iSCSI volume.
