Powersave - HDD spindown - HOWTO ?

Hi !

my device is a N5200pro.

The maintime i use this device for recording TV shows from my Receiver (Dreambox 7025 using Linux) or hearing music (MP3).

But often 14 days or more I don`t make any records or hear any music.

Is it Possible to save Power with the N5200PRO ?

I found WOL in the webinterface, can i use it and if so HOW can i use it ?

what`s with HDD Spindown, i recognized that my HDD`s spins 24/7 the whole time ?

It would be nice if anybody can help me !

i think on the admin interface, under system mamagement>schedule on/off, you can set when to turn on and when to turn off automatically. for example, if you don't use the NAS from 20:00~6:00, you can set your NAS to turn on at 6:00 and turn off at 20:00 automatically. the spin down selection let your HDD to spin down if idle for a period of time. if you select 30 minutes, system will let HDD spin down if idle for 30 minutes. that will save a lot of electricity becasue the NAS itself does not consume a lot of electricity. but the HDDs do. if it spins down and you want to access data, they will just spin up and start to work.

i won`t shut down the NAS completely, because if there is a timer the Dreambox can`t recording if the NAS is down.

but where can i select spin down ? i can`t find where i can do that ?

You can do that via GUI at Storage -> Disks
But if You have enabled the Media Server the spin down will not work, cause the media server seems to scan permanantly for new media files.
