    Unbelievable! Lost 100+GB!

I was playing around with MediaServer settings and soft-rebooted the N5200PRO a few times. When I checked my movie folder, I realized over 100GB of new movies I got within the last week suddenly disappeared... it's like the server went back to a previous state and forgot everything new since? How is this possible?

I am terribly pissed at Thecus for 1) My N5200 firmware died and I am still waiting for them to RMA my new DOM chip, and now 2) my second N5200PRO deleting my stuff! I have 7TB in my Thecus and I can no longer trust them. I need to find a new solution.

I tried creating the same folder that was lost in this incident, and Windows tells me the folder already exists, but it doesn't show up in Explorer (not hidden).

Have you tried mapping it as a network drive and running an undelete program?

Undelete programs only work when they have low level access to the drives i.e. when hey are local, they do not work on network shares. You would need to run an undelete program on the NAS itself for that to be an option.

As for how to get to the data again, I don't have any further suggestions.

    Re: Unbelievable! Lost 100+GB!

Thank you for the replies. I found the reason.

When playing with some admin settings, it somehow deleted my user account so I recreated it. Recreating the user account lost permission to see those files entirely, all new files within the past month. Permission is probably based on unique ID and not username. I figured traces of the file were still on the drive since it wouldn't let me recreate the same folder.

I changed my main folder to "public" and the files reappeared. I am not sure how I can get it back to being read/writeable with a new user. I don't trust Thecus firmware at all to keep rebooting and changing settings, that's how my first one broke. So for now, my folder will just have to stay public...

    to make it work again

Create a share, setup the permissions as you like

COPY the 100G or whatever to the new share..

    Voila!

It will take a while, but it will work

    I've done it before
