    N2200 Media Server not working

Originally I had a 80Gb HDD in the NAS to try it out as a JBOD before obtaining 2x 1Tb Seagate HDDs which are on the compatible list.

Since adding the two new drives and setting them up in a RAID 1 array (which took quite some time - overnight) I can get the sharing to work but the Media Server will not work. I have enabled the Media Server but in the status page it is showing "Stop". I have tried rebooting the device but this does not help.
Consequently I cannot select the shared folders to share the media in those folders. The screen refreshed but the shared folders do not get their selected tick. The NAS says "Folder Add!" I am able to see the shared folders on my network and have uploaded media files to them. With the Media Server not working this NAS is just a storage device.

Any help would be appreciated. Maybe I've not done something I should have or done something wrong. Please help.

    Carlisle.

    Dear Carlisle,

When you say "the status page it is showing "Stop"."

Can you elaborate on that for further assistance?

Re: N2200 Media Server not working

System Information page/Status menu item/Service Status for Media Server is showing "Stop" as opposed to "Running".

I had some problems with the NAS IP address but this has been sorted.

I can now get the Media Server to run but... wait for it... when I connect to the Thecus with my PS3 I get, you guessed it, DLNA Protocol Error (2101). Running the latest firmware on the PS3. When I get this error it stops the Media Server on the Thecus from running and I have to restart it.

Now, I ve had a brief look for solutions to this but I haven't come up with anything solid yet. Do you have any suggestions? Ia appreciate that this may be a PS3 problem from what I've read.

    Carlisle.

I've got the same problem. I can't get the mediaserver working.

how did you get your mediaserver running and managed to select the folders?

Re: N2200 Media Server not working

I had a similar problem with my USBHDD folder on my N0204. I could not change its permissions. No matter how many times I tried to change them... it would not take.

Eventually, the only thing that worked was removing the drives and reformatting them with my computer. When I placed them back in my NAS and the NAS reformatted the drives back to the XFS standard, the problem was solved.

This led me to believe that there was some kind of corrupted directory structure on the drives that prevented the USBHDD permissions from being changed.

Re: N2200 Media Server not working

I had the same problem with the USBHDD and eventually I had to backup all the data, then recreate the RAID structure and restore the data, just like you milesy. The Thecus support said the problem should not happen anymore with the new firmware.

Now I'm having the 'media server not starting' problem. Same as Carlisle and rhokahin in seems. Applying the new firmware did no work (BTW, it removes the usb copy function and it's not even written in the release notes).
So I'm very interrested in the solution.

    Thanks

Thumbs up Re: N2200 Media Server not working

I think i have found the solution. thanks to milesy
    1. Just format the HD on a pc in ntfs.
    2. Then install the HD in the NAS. The NAS will format the HD in its own format.
    3. Then configure the NAS with most recent wizzard-utility and the new firmware.

Now you can select the shared folders to share the media in those folders. The mediaserver is now running and working.
I hope it will still work when i come home. cross my fingers

Re: N2200 Media Server not working

    Hi rhokahin

Basically, you re-created the system configuration by reformating HDD. This means this could be another software bug when initializing the drives, just like the USBHDD bug was.

The problem with your solution is that it means to backup all data then restore it after reformating the HDD. I'd prefer not do that once again (it takes forever to restore 500 Gb). I've submitted a ticket to the Thecus support, I'll wait for their answer.

    Hi Tristan,

It's seems to be a bug in the system. I've also submitted a ticket to the Thecus support (12-dec-2009). I still waiting for their answer.

    Hi,

It seems that only public folders be functional without any ACL.

I have same fault on N2200 v3007e.. although its enabled.. status shows it as stopped.. although Ive not tested to see if xbmc software can see it yet.. looks like its a bug in the ajax.. webdisk dont work either.. got friends to try connecting from outside and they too cant listed the folders.. although I found if I can access a full share folder and upload any small file.. then refresh the folders.. it then works when clicking the plus sign
ive done the drive check.. have 2 jbod 1.5tb seagate drives in it.

Re: N2200 Media Server not working

    Hello,

isn't there a solution for the Media Server stopping? I see it reported here a few times and actually I have the same problem. I also reported to Thecus support without answer yet.

I used original firmware and MediaServer stopped after a few minutes. Accessing media from the PS3 before MediaServer stopped result in DLNA Protocol Error and then MediaServer is stopped.

I then removed all files in the MediaServer music folder that are *not* .mp3. There were other files like album pictures, small text files and so on. After removing all other files MediaServer seems to keep running. At least it seems to work with this.....but:

I upgraded to latest firmware and biggest issue I now have is that once I start MediaServer the CPU load of the NAS is staying at 100% for all the time, it never goes down again. This even more dramatically reduces read/write performance of the NAS which is not acceptable.

Dear Thecus support, please help with this issue.

    Thanks,
    Thomas.

Re: N2200 Media Server not working

    Hello all,

i have the same problem with the media server and the PS3. After few minutes the media server stops.
Streaming music with the media server to my soundbridge is working and the mediaserver stays on.

Strange has this something to do with the PS3?

    best regards
    Bernd

Re: N2200 Media Server not working

    Hi,
There seems to be 2 threads about this issue, but no one has a solution or heard from Thecus.
I'm having the same problem that the Media Server' reverts from 'Running' to 'Stop' after a few minutes. I'm not using a PS3.. it's definately the Thecus that is the issue. Sent a ticket to Ultimate storage and they sent a reply saying that I should be contacted by Thecus to resolve this issue. Clearly this is a known issue that they cannot sort out yet!!! I won't be waiting long!!!

If anyone has tried the latest firmware please let us know the outcome.
