    N7700 Nsync issue

I can't seem to get FTP authentification working. When I use an account that works from a DOS window..I get this as a status :

Target server connection failed. User authentication failed. Target Server Connection timeout. Nsync folder is not exist. Permission deny. Test create target directory error. Test transfer file error. Connection test on 10.11.1.102 success. Out of space. Nsync success. Restore success. VPN connection time out. Cancel by user. Unknow failed.

Every error message possible lol, any tips?

    Re: N7700 Nsync issue

    Ok - that helps ;-)

    preparation on the target machine:
    - create there a user which has proper access rights
    - in the ftp home directory of the user create a folder nsync
    - be sure the above created user has proper access right in this directory

On the source box (Your thecus):
    - create a nsync task
    - use legacy ftp
    - use the user previously created on the target box

    Re: N7700 Nsync issue

I did all that and I get the error I posted. If no folder Nsync present, I get an error that the folder is not found, everything looks right, just won't work

The folder must be "nsync" - "Nsync" is not "nsync" - are You sure that You created the folder in the ftp root of the ftp user ?

    Re: N7700 Nsync issue

ya it's nsync. Today I noticed something new, seems it makes a nsync_tmp folder, then says Test create target directory error. If I delete the folder it says Test transfer file error once.

I checked the permissions and both folder have every permission except execute, and there is inheritance. I have no idea what is going on. I never had problems with FTP accounts before.

    Re: N7700 Nsync issue

The test tries to create a temporary folder on the target and the write a file to it - so may be You check Your settings on the traget ftp server for that user

    Re: N7700 Nsync issue

Have a look at post :

    http://www.thecusforum.eu/showthread.php?t=2088

Might help you out. The issue i had was the temporary folder Peter mentions, the NAS was actually trying to create the folder off root / which it didnt have priviledges to do. I had to give the Nsync user privileges to / to get it to work. (This was around firmware version 3.00.06 - It may have been fixed since, not tested)

    Re: N7700 Nsync issue

Beware when using Nsync, as previous posts on the subject will show. It seems to be badly broken, and in my own experience, showed particular favor to certain files when crashing, with little regard to file type, size, name etc. It seems other folks who found it useless were better served with the Rsync workaround.. (Search for the details).

Most notably, it seems that both Nsync and Rsync are offered in the latest Thecus N8800 release (I guess this means N7700 as well). A cynical person might interpret that as 'migrating to an app which actually works' given the back catalog of Nsync issues, but read into that what you will..

    Re: N7700 Nsync issue

After my last Nsync issue ticket, I was asked to upgrade to the latest FW and gently nudged towards Rsync.

It's enough for me to look into Rsync on a Windows server, those Nsync jobs are running fine at the moment though. But random failures/lack of any notification makes rsync a priority.
