N5200Pro Not Visible in Windows 7

    Any assistance greatfully received.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit on my laptop, 64-bit on my desktop). Both computers run ESET Smart Security. I have previously mapped a newtwok drive on my desktop and can view and access this drive. However, on either computer, if I select 'Network' from within Windows Explorer the Thecus N5200Pro is not shown.

I don't believe it's a Firewall isue as if it was I wouldn't be able to access the mapped network drive.

    Any ideas?

    Regards and many thanks.

You need the patch to allow NTLM v1 on Win7

    Hi philhu,

Ok, thanks. Give me a clue; is this patch obtainable from Microsoft, Thecus or where? What is NTLM v1? I'll Google it to learn more.

The password transmission protocol used to send/rcv password is NTLM

The older XP and before, used NTLM v1, Vista and above use NTLM v2

You need the patch to allow shares on your computer to use NTLM v1.

It is available from microsoft and, believe it or not, buffalotech, since their NAS's have the same problem.

    It is also described here:

I made that change manually and it has made no difference. I should add that if I type '\\ThecusN5200' into the Windows Explorer address bar then the NAS is shown under 'Network' in Windows Explorer. However, if I shut down Windows Explorer and then re-open it I have to re-type '\\ThecusN5200' in order for it to be shown again.

Did you try mapping a drive?

Did you try it by ip address?

Re: N5200Pro Not Visible in Windows 7

    Hi Philhu,

I have previously mapped a drive that is visible and accessible under 'Computer.' I can map additional drives and all is fine. I'm not sure what you mean in your second staement - try what?

Please undertsnad that I can make the NAS show up by typing '\\ThecusN5200' but it never appears in the right hand pane of Windows Explorer and never appears under 'Network' unless I type the command.

The same behaviour on both my computers.
