N7700 Bug in firmware or 'by design' ?!

    Hi N7700 User,

    1) I have started my N7700 with 1 disk (JBOD) and this disk has become the masterdrive.
    2) I have installed some modules.
    3) Next I installed 5 more disks as raid 5 and switched the masterdrive to this new raid.
    4) I tried to install the same modules to this masterdrive, but the installation failed for any module I
have choosen (To say it more clearly, the installation process didn`t fail, but the modules where
    never shown as installed).

    5) I switched back to the single JBOD drive as masterdrive and what a surprise, my old modules
(see 2.) where still shown as installed.

Maybe this was the reason for the failed installation under 4. i thought and de-installed all modules from the JBOD drive.

    6) I switched the masterdrive back to the raid 5 and tried to install the modules again.

BUT, as shown under 4. the modules installation still failed !

    So, what can I claim:
You can switch the masterdrive, but you can`t install modules to this new masterdrive.
Modules can only be installed to the origin and first-time masterdrive!

This was done with firmware 3.00.07a.
Will this behaviour be fixed with the new fw 3.00.08 ?
Anyone here with similar experience ?

    Kind regards,
    Martin

At a first glance it looks like the "module" folder does not exist or the file "module/cfg/module.db" is missing from the new master data raid.

Both should be created during boot - have you tried rebooting after switching the master raid and before trying to install modules on the new master raid ?

    Hi Falk,

    thanks for your reply!

The new masterdrive will get the master role not before booting the NAS, therefore you have to boot every time. In the manual or in the forum i`ve read, that while booting the NAS (after a master change) the operating system or something similar will be copied to the new masterdrive, but you are right, there must be something missing ....

    kind regards
    Martin
