Has anyone been brave enough to try the new v 3.00.08 firmware yet?

I don't know if I'm brave enough to be the first, just wondering if anyone else had had a go with it yet?

    Type Firmware
    File Name N5500/N7700/N7700SAS/N8800/N8800SAS Firmware
    Version v 3.00.08 Date 2009.12.23

i logged a ticket for the issue of webdisk not working over HTTPS in the v3.00.07a firmware I'm currently running and after a week they came back to me this morning and suggested this firmware which seems to have been released only today and doesn't even show the HTTPS webdisk fix in the changelog at all although they have said they tested it and HTTPS seems to be working.

    Overview

    Hi Fajo and vibe666,

if the actual released firmware is in fact the same as released three weeks ago
    be careful!
I´had installed that "old" 3.00.08 firmware, which was described to be (only ?) for the N7700 PRO,
8800 etc. and after rebooting I had no (!!) chance to get into the webinterface anymore.

But Peter Futterknecht´s "factory_test.sh" saved my life, ääääh NAS:-) (thanks so much!)

    kind regards

Yup upgraded our 8800SAS this morning. No problems, and the interface updates are fine.

Just trying out the proper Rsync functionality right now (The reason I upgraded, via a ticket complaining about an Nsync issue)

BTW, I too could not access the web interface, after some investigation, turns out it works if you use HTTPS rather than HTTP. ( *cough* some quality testing IS a requirement Thecus)

All other services migrated successfully, shares, iSCSI, data, Webserver (intranet), backup jobs and all the other stuff i have this box doing.

Re: Has anyone been brave enough to try the new v 3.00.08 firmware yet?

We have installed new FW on a N8800 yesterday. Reboot after upgrade process was ok.
After starting a smart check on one HD the system bailed out. the disk was marked as "removed". We had to shut down the NAS, remove the disk, boot again and reinsert it. After a rebuild everything themes to be ok. The problem is quite similar to FW 03.00.06, where disks randomly dropped out frequently.
History: Catastrophic problems with 3.00.06. System unusable. After upgrade to 3.00.07a system stabilized. Just evaluating .08

Same problem here with lack of access after applying it, though HTTPS is not helping in this particular case.

More detail in the 'N8800 unresponsive after upgrade' thread.

Re: Has anyone been brave enough to try the new v 3.00.08 firmware yet?

i actually got impatient and installed it anyway.

new ajax2 interface doesn't seem like much fo astep up imho, a lot of the other NAS's (synology, qnap etc.) seem more polished from what i've seen.

still, it's a bit of a spruce up for xmas, so i'm not complaining.

i didn't notice the http issue as i only ever use https on it, but the updated firmware didn't fix my problem in any case.

seems like you can't change the https ports foruse with th webdisk feature for some reason. i tried forwarding different ports on my router and even forwarding from an external random port to the standard https port on my LAN but it didn't make any difference. the admin gui works fine, as does the phone slideshow thing, just not the webdisk. i'd be of the thinking that using standard ports just makes it easier for intruders to have ago at breaking in. not sure how true that is though, it's just something i was always told.

anyway, it seems okay so far (touch wood) hopefully it will stay that way. this is only my second firmware update ince i got the n7700 but having read a lot of horror stories, it always makes me nervous.

Re: Has anyone been brave enough to try the new v 3.00.08 firmware yet?

    Hi Rainer,

I have downgraded to fw 2.01.09, because the script is written for 2.01.09.
Then I upgraded to 3.00.07 again. But you can save time and edit the script to downgrade direct to 3.00.07.

Have a look at Peter Futterknecht`s wonderful site:
    h**p://www.futterknecht.at/index.php/downloadsep/n7700downloads > usefull stuff

Did you also upgrade to 3.00.08 with no access ?

    kind regards and
    Merry Christmas

But be carefull if You edit the script to use a linux style editor. A windows style editor like notepad destroys the file for proper usage.

Re: Has anyone been brave enough to try the new v 3.00.08 firmware yet?

Hey guys, my N7700 webdisk has been NOT working for a few months now.. ever since I upgraded to 3.00.7a, it never worked again

always said "loading" or just wouldnt even let you log in

now with 3.00.8 firmware... does it work again?

I could get webdisk to work internally on the network, but externally with port forwarding from my router... it used to work for years.. and now with 3.00.7a - never worked again

Re: Has anyone been brave enough to try the new v 3.00.08 firmware yet?

I upgraded from firmware version 3.00.07a to 3.00.08 on my N7700. Though the upgrading process ran smoothly without any errors, the new firmware could not start up the web interface. In addition, Thecus setup software could not detect the presence of the NAS. I had to downgrade back to 3.00.07a and everything is back to normal.

Re: Has anyone been brave enough to try the new v 3.00.08 firmware yet?

I just spent three hours pulling out my hair trying to fix my N7700 after this firmware update turned it into a shiny blinking paperweight.

No amount of restarting, changing IP addresses or using default settings would allow me to connect.

The only thing that worked was downloading the script from http://www.futterknecht.at/ and re-applying the firmware update via USB key. Worked like a charm.

    Step by step:

    1. Make sure you have the current or previous firmware .bin file downloaded from Thecus:

    http://www.thecus.com/download.php?type=f&pid=82

    2. Download this amazing script:

    http://www.futterknecht.at/index.php...orytestsh20109

    3. Open the .sh file using metapad (NOT the windows text editors):

    http://liquidninja.com/metapad/metapad351.zip

    4. Change the second line of the file to refer to the filename of the correct firmware file you want to use:

    change

    fwfile="N7700_FW_2.01.09.bin"

    to

    fwfile="N5500_N7700series_N8800series_FW_3.00.08.bin"

    5. Copy the .sh and .bin files to a FAT-32 formatted USB stick.

    6. Power down the Thecus.

    7. Insert USB stick and power up. The unit will self test then eventually you will see a bunch of "HHHHH" flashing on the screen.

    8. Once the updating is finished, unplug the stick.

    Done!
