    problems reformatting hard discs N0204

After deleting the RAID 1 over the admin web interface I wanted to reformat the hard discs using the programme smart utility (v1.00.12). It didn't work - the programme first showed the error "ROM file not found" and then "Upgrade Thread Fail!".

How can I reformat the hard discs and set a new raid?

    Thanks for any help,
    Raska

    Dear raska,

Your firmware version is newer than the one in your smart utility.
All you have to do is replace the firmware where you have installed the smart utility to the latest firmware version to run the smart utility.

Re: problems reformatting hard discs N0204

    Dear Ivan,

I already installed the firmware v1.00.12 where the old one is - but I have both versions (the older one and the v1.00.12) on my computer. Is it necessary to delete the older one?

In the Smart Utility Installation Wizard I´m asked if I want to "proceed" to " ...clean all data from the hdd.." After pushing the button "proceed" the error messages "ROM file not found" and then "Upgrade Thread Fail!" are displayed.

    Thanks for your help,
    Raska

    Dear raska,

    Sorry for the confusion.

Please check the folder where you have installed the smart utility, in there, you will find older firmware version of N0204, replace that to the latest firmware 3.00.07e.

    It should work from there.

Re: problems reformatting hard discs N0204

    Dear Ivan,

    Now I'm even more confused
From the beginning: I downloaded the new firmware for the N0204 (v3.00.07E) as well as for the smart utility from the Thecus website. I installed the software upgrade referring to the release note from Thecus. Afterwards I installed the new smart utility (V1.00.12) firmware also referring to Thecus (without cancelling any old versions).
The problem concerning the reinstallation of the RAID you know already from our conversation.

Following your advice concerning the replacement of the old firmware I deleated the old one.

I still have the same problem: I cannot install the N0204 via the smart utility.

Maybe you can explain more in detail what you suggest!
    Thanks a lot!

    Raska,

Did you rename the firmware file exaclty as instructed in the release note?

Re: problems reformatting hard discs N0204

    Hi Milesy!

I renamed only the Smart Utility to "firmware_N0204".

The path in the explorer is another one though:

    C:\Programme\Thecus\Thecus N0204 Windows Utiltiy\Thecus Smart Utility

    Raska,

Did you upgrade the NAS to the new firmware through your web browser GUI?

    Hi Milesy!

Yes, first the NAS over the Admin Panel and afterwards the Smart Utility.

Re: problems reformatting hard discs N0204

    Raska,

    Try this:

    1) Backup your data on the NAS if you haven't already done so.
    2) Navigate into your Admin panel (AJAX GUI)
    3) Choose in the left MENU > STORAGE > RAID
    4) Select the RAID volume and then click EDIT above
    5) In this next window, click REMOVE RAID.
    6) Be patient and let the process run.
    7) Once done, the RAID will be erased and you will have to run the Smart Utility to re-establish the new RAID volume as you like--- JBOD, 0, 1.

If this is how you did it to begin with, then I would suggest removing your drives from the NAS and reformatting them with your computer via CONTROL PANEL > ADMINSTRATIVE TOOLS > COMPUTER MANAGEMENT > DISK MANAGEMENT. You will need a SATA 2.5" interface to connect your drives to your computer via USB.

By reformatting the drives (NTFS) the NAS will be forced to refomat them back to XFS when you reinstall them into it. This should then correct any directory issues that lie on the drives and prevent proper execution of the Smart Utility.

Re: problems reformatting hard discs N0204

    Raska,

Try uninstalling the Old Setup Wizard (version 1.0) as well as the Smart Utility (version 1.00.12) from your computer. Download and run CCleaner and its registry cleaner function on your computer. Then restart your computer and reinstall the Smart Utility (version 1.00.12). Then rename the new firmware file from "N0204_FW_3.00.07E.bin" to "Firmware_N0204" and place it in the following path:

    C:\Program Files\Thecus\Thecus Smart Utility

The renamed file should overwrite the file with the same name in the above path:

Then try running the Smart Utility again.

    Hi Milesy!

I did all points of your describtion; with the same error massage by the installation. It doesn´t work!

    One information for you:
I don´t think that the " new" Firmware_N0204 overwrite the "old" file, there was no massage for this action on my screen! It was only pasted there.

Re: problems reformatting hard discs N0204

    Raska,

    Two last things to try:

Try deleting the file Firmware_N0204 from the Thecus Smart Utility folder, then rename the firmware file on your desktop to Firmware_N0204, then drag the renamed file into the Thecus Smart Utility Folder and run the utility.

Try SINGLEUSERMODE. Refer to page 76 of your manual.

If none of these steps above work then I recommend you open a support ticket and ask for Tony. He is great and will ensure that your concerns are resolved. You can even call these guys on the phone as well.

Sorry to hear your problem persists.
