    N2200 - Windows 7 - mapped drives keep dropping

I own a Thecus N2200 and it all works fine - except for mapping drives under Windows 7. They map fine but I have noticed that after they sit idle for about 20 minutes, if I try to access them Windows just sits there trying to interogate them. The only way to get them back is to reboot. It is very annoying. The only way around it I have so far is to run a Windows cron job every 15 minutes to do a directory on the two NAS mapped drives I have - and this stops them from timing out.

Adminittedly - I could just keep using the cron job but wanting to know if others are experiencing the same thing.

I have heard similar reports from other Windows 7 users on other forums.

An alternative is using an ftp client, or mapping to the ftp location.
On WinXP and Vista, I have found the ftp client to be much faster to view and transfer files than the explorer method.

In all honesty, I think this may be a 7 thing rather than a Thecus thing; I've observed similar behaviour at work with a 7 32-bit workstation talking to a 2003 R2 server. Still trying to get to the bottom of it.

I have seen this too, but on Win7 AND XP

The drives show up in 'My Computer' with an 'X' through them. If I dbl-click them though, a second or two, they open up again, so not quite the same problem.

Unfortunately windows 7 support is not complete yet.
It's the reason why I eventually had to send my N2200 back for a full refund. earlier this week.

Word from Thecus I got was that there's plans to upgrade Samba somewhere in May.
That would've possibly sorted out my issue (password proteced shares not accessible) but can't wait for that long.

    yes, I forgot.

They are still running the authentication v1. Win7 uses V2 of LanManager authentication.

    BUT...

There is a patch to allow a Win7 to use V1 authentication. I have that in my system, since day one, so I forgot about it.

I have the exact same problem with win7. Reboot fixes it. No problems with my 2k3 server or xp boxes.
