    n5200 failing to start up

    Hello everybody,

I need help with my thecus machine.

My n5200 is failing to start up. When I power on the unit (using the switch on the rear of the unit), the machine tries to start but instead it blinks on and off continuously. I tried unplugging it totally for a while, but it did not change anything.

I am now facing several possible scenarios, namely:

    1) I'd like to understand if it may be a hardware issue or not (PS, mobo, memory, cpu, ...?)
    2) In case a new part is necessary, where would I be able to buy it?
    3) In case I can't fix this unit, would my 5x500Mb RAID-5 drives work in a new machine? (n5500, n7700,...)

    Thank you in advance.

    Regards,
    Jordi

Re: n5200 failing to start up

It maybe the PSU or the DOM chip inside needs replacement.

My suggestion is to call their tech support and find out why.

    2) I can't find anywhere selling parts online, but I am sure Thecus support will guide you or maybe they can sell to you directly.

    3) Yes you can mvoe the raid to another unit.

    Hope this help.

Re: n5200 failing to start up

Thank you all for your inputs. They are very welcome :-)

I removed all the drives in case one was draining too much power, but the unit behaved exactly the same. I opened the unit and the power supply connector seems a standard one. I was considering using an external power supply and see how it goes.

    Any advice against this test?

Nope, that's exactly what I did when my N5200 Pro stopped working properly. And indeed by using an external powersupply from a normal pc it was obvious the Thecus PSU was not OK.

I still had warranty so got a new one delivered, but you can probably also buy them somewhere if that is your problem too.
