My HX1000 conked out today...bah humbug !.
Bought 29.11.2008.
I turned on the PC and the motherboard led's lit up and the fans spun up very briefly, and that was that.
I removed the HX620 from another machine, and swapped out the HX1000.
So my PC is happily running again.
Some years ago when the HX620 came out I bought one, and that died after a few years. The RMA process was pretty quick but the cost of having to send the unit to Holland cost me around £36 (incl Insurance) which was not far off half the cost of buying a new one, but I got a shiny new HX620 sealed in its box as a replacement.
Since the HX1000 is bigger and heavier, I dread to think what the cost would be.......probably give me a coronary !.
So, I emailed Scan Computers and they replied that as they no longer stock HX1000's I would have to deal with Corsair direct.
That has put me off, and I guess I will have to write off the cost of the PSU (around £160 back then) and look to another brand of PSU, and not even bother starting the RMA process after the experience of the last time.
It is just too expensive to send off a faulty unit when the money could be used towards another one which hopefully has a depot/office here in the UK to deal with returns.
So in some ways I feel that warranties are not really of much use when some PC part conks out after a few years, even though it is covered by a warranty, as it costs a lot of money to return it to another country, as the UK site where I buy stuff doesn't have a models in stock as they are 'old'..
Anyone know if a PSU maker actually has an office or something to deal with RMA's in this country, because if there are, then I would look to buying a model of their brand ?.
