was the capslock key broken too ?

I'd try removing some of the USB devices you have attached.

Clear the BIOS & try again. Failing that, clear the BIOS (if you're not sure how to it'll be in the motherboard manual) and unplug everything except the cpu, ram & graphics card & try booting again.

turn the power off (& remove power lead), remove the battery, check the manual on how to clear the bios, some have jumpers, some have a switch.

I'll have a flip thro the manual once it's downloaded & have a dig.

Right, looky at page 2-21 of the manual & it shows the location of the jumper & what to do.
the mobo download page is here ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

Re: help CMOS CHECKSUM BAD USB DEV OVER CURRENT STATUS DETECTED

For a better scope of help, post in the Help forum Help - technical & advisory - HEXUS.community discussion forums , give your system specs, outline your prob in full, what you've done so far & whether your kit is new or 2nd hand.

And don't be too down on yourself chap, we all started somewhere & we've all had builds from hell So you're in good company.

Any USB headers attached to the mobo for a USB port on the case? I had that problem before. Was an older mobo though.
